I am having trouble in coming up with an original band name. So my question is how did you come up with yours was there like a little trick you used that made you create a new word or phrase etc?

sometimes streets make good band names, like Crimson Glory Ln. sometimes good band names come from two completely unrelated words or maybe a drunken mispronounciation. my band got it's name from a Pete Yorn song where he sings, "I want to run with you through Moorland Fields".

i stole it from the pixies song "Velouria" (my band is called My Velouria)
Shake up a Boggle thing-deal and see what happens. Or use a Ouija board! Maybe you can sell your soul to satan while you're at it to ensure your success. Or climb up on your roof with all the Scrabble pieces, throw them off and see what happens.
You could always take a dart and throw it at a newspaper delivery boy and use the first thing he screams as your name.
Walk into a library blindfolded. (You may need a buddy to keep you from running into stuff.) Grab a book at random. Open it to a random page. Keep the blindfold on. Then start rhythmically opening and closing the book as loudly as possible. If that doesn't get the librarian's attention, start yodeling. If you don't know how, that's even better. It's always fun to try something new for the first time. The first thing the librarian says to you (after "SHHHHHHH!") is going to be your cue to start lighting matches and throwing them at books and people. KEEP YODELING! When they close the door on your cell, look around for a nice, profound piece of prison graffiti. If there's no graffiti to be found, start reading your fellow inmates tattoos. Many may be covered up by their clothing, so use your shower time as an opportunity to really take a good look at all your new friends and find any hidden tats. Anyway, once you find a piece of graffiti or a tattoo that your happy with, rearrange the letters into something new and interesting. The resulting anagram will be your bands spectacular new name! It's just that simple.
Or you could just call yourselves It Doesn't Taste as Bad as it Smells, but that would be TERRIBLE.

open the dictionary to a random page, close your eyes and put your finger on the page. Open you eyes and whatever word you finger is on is your bands name. That workes for The Commadors.

I have a very funny story like that.
I wrote a really good song once upon a time and i didn't have a clue what to name it. So i opened the dictionary and closed my eyes and picked a word, out came "Scatterbrain." I was like..... cool.
So, 2 years later, radiohead release a record with a song the same name.........damn............
I dont have a band:( But i was bored one day and i thought of cool band names... one of them was "chronicles of the blue telephone"

Bah! There's always somebody who has to chime in with that one. I'm pretty sure that's how The Grateful Dead got their name, too, as well as countless others, I'm sure. So cliché. Try another book, like the Kama Sutra or The Bible. Or BOTH! Grab one thing out of each and put 'em together! You might come up with something really cool like Anal Nimrod or Immaculate Paradika.
Hey Pope-y. Scatterbrain was a band, too. They were like a comedy/metal band as I recall. That had to have been late 80s/early 90s, I think.
This is all hilarious because I've done most of the things mentioned here to name a band, all from dropping my finger on a word in the dictionary to getting plastered like crazy!
Currently (What Goes Around) came about in my head because of an MDFMK song line that I was singing that night:
"What goes around, will come around and after all, we'll all fall down"
We were just sitting around and I just blurted out "hey fellas, how 'bout 'What Goes Around' and it just stuck!

Don't worry about it. Jeff Beck had a song called "Scatterbrain" long before that. It happens to be one of the most amazing instrumental songs ever recorded. Check out the album, Blow By Blow. This album and Wired are the best albums Jeff Beck ever made.

Just think of something that would be amazing for a name. I'm extremely jealous of joy division's name, it's so perfect. Ironic, meaningful, nonabrasive ('baby killers' doesn't have the same ring to it).

Something like Joy Division is the kind of thing I want. A name lke that just sounds like a band that knows what their doing.

My first ever gig the band that went before me was called Savage Cabbage. They sucked so much. It was kinda funny.

I tried the dictionary thin once, too. I got "Palatine" or "Palatines." It meant Roman government official. I liked it, but it sounded awfully Strokes-ish. I mean, most of those bands I really like, but I'm squeamish about naming a band The Somethings, you know?

pick random words and put them together
all of the above and try going to the theatre, reading poetry etc. You might find some interesting word combinations that wouldnt usually be used in real life.

I think every city has at least one band named Velouria. There was a band here in OKC around 91-93 with that name.

lol this will be the third time we'll change name...
Our band got its' name from when we were at our favorite dive bar... We were sitting at the bar and talking about what name we wanted and our lead singer said let's go outside and talk about it...
So that is when we decided to call our band OUTSIDE... People seem to like it and it looks good on a flyer...
I hate trying to come up with names for a band... we went through a couple...
TRIM
GREEN DEMONS
I hated those names with a passion... so now in my band I said you can name our band anything you want as long as I have the Veto power...
