do they make blank rack mount chassis that are affordable? i looked into this before and all i came up with was stuff for computers that was in the $250 neighborhood. i'd like to build a preamp in a one or two space rack chassis.

I ordered one from paia.com years ago. I'm not sure what they have in their catalog these days but it's worth a shot.

Mouser.com or jameco.com is another option.

Why not build what you want. I am going to help my guitarist this weekend to build a live in 2 head cabinet with 6-10 rack spaces and room on the sides where you can store cables and power and just want ever you want.

He moved his Line 6 delay in the FX Loop with his 10 band EQ so now he needs a place for his delay and EQ to sit so that it is out of site and won't fall off his head. The solution ... add a power conditioner, rackmounted tuner, 2 space drawer that can pull out and hold his EQ and Delay so he can set it and it would fall and the settings won't get lost.

It really is an easy build and I will get the instructions and send them your way if you want. I am building a rack system for the PA because the only one I found that worked and is want I was looking for cost around 800 bucks I can build they same thing for less than 50 bucks ... elbow grease included would set the total at 51.00 bucks :)

Good luck though ... if you buy used most units last a long time so I doubt you would get screwed. If you buy new ... I think they want too much for what you are buying.

i appreciate the reply, however, i am not trying to build a rack system. i was interested in the actual chassis they build preamps in. as that i wanted to build my own preamp, and pair it with a power amp of my choosing in a rack format, because it would be cheaper to build, only if i could find an affordable chassis. as it would save me from having to build a power amp too, plus buy a headshell to put it in.

Oops, Sorry bout that I guess I misread it. Well good luck with it ... I am not sure then that I could offer any help.

It came to me today ... check for daddy's used gear. It used to be named "Used Gear By Mail" and you would get a paper list of the items they had in stuff and then you would call or send them mail ... then they moved to full internet layout and they even have an ebay store. Enter used gear by mail in Google and see if it takes you to "Daddy's" ... their ebay store offers a lot of broken stuff that goes for CHEAP. You could probably find exactly what you want for something like 10 bucks plus the parts that are in the old unit may save you from buying some ... anyways check them out . Let me know if you need a link and I will get you one!

Good Luck
