Playing the guitar then the bass is fun because you can play the bass to relax. When you find out where you can go on a guitar, the bass will play low and follow.

Could you do something on minor chords please? I've been trying to find something for ages.

You can try this on a bass. You all can copy these with the mouse and paste them to a txt file and save them. That way you can edit them how ever you want.

Instead of writing the TAB for everything why not just say: play the root or the minor third over any minor chord for some nice, pleasant, non-offensive bass notes?

I hope these tabs finger out everything easier then words so people will get the hang of sounding beautiful with out worring. I figure if they can do this its a start on their journey to what it is in music they want to do. I hope its enuf welcoming help for anyone who wants to play music.

Yes but these fish are not hatched, and you can count on them. There free.

Bass playing is all about creativity. "Everytime You Go Away" is at best an average song, but when Paul Young recorded it, Pino Palladino recorded perhaps one of the best bass lines ever.

Despite being very difficult, it's also for a fretless bass. I left out some repeated notes, but this is the gist. Try playing it sometime, I'd reccomend any aspiring bass player learn it, as Pino is one of the top handful of bass players on the entire planet.

Savant: funny you should post a note about that tune. I was discussing this song at a rehearsal recently. I contend this is the track that made the Musicman Stingray fretless bass sound famous. Whenever someone says they play a MM bass I can't help but think of this track. Absolutely a song made by a bass line.

Indeed, I've had the pleasure to work with some great bass players. I've never actually met Pino, but I've certainly worked with at least one or two of the more well known fretless players none the less.

I've always liked the fretless bass, but it requires a special touch. Too much of it is never a good thing, and Pino has really broken that mould. Listen to Paul Young's other hit cover of "Oh Girl". The bass line there is almost to die for, similar to the original, but with more of a modern flair.

So, listening to it, I'll just tab it out by ear... It should be like this.

Hartless.....in your second and third posts the examples are not major nor are they minor. They're just single notes without out a third or sixth to distinguish them one way or another.

Also your A minor and A# minor examples are actually major thirds.

Hehe. Yea, I already tore into his "Guitar" tutorial for similar mistakes. :)

Neither have I...but I don't live in a "state". :D Okay...my wife might say I live in a "state of denial" but that's as close as I get.

Some people just don't take the time to really learn the basics. Read his "guitar theory (http://guitargeek.com/chat/showthread.php?t=103062)" thread for a real laugh. (Ouch, two beers and I turn in to a real jerk...) I gave up talking to him after that exchange.

Here's another gem I was listening to. David Hungate is often one of the most abjectly boring bass players on the planet (sorry David), but he's also one of the best. He tends to play best on the least "serious" songs, I.E. pop.

On the Xanadu soundtrack, he really hits on out of the park on the Olivia Newton John song "Magic".

The main riff is very simple, just a little bouncy thing:

------------------------------------------
--------------------------3-4-------------
---5-----3-5------3--5--------5-----------
-------------------------------------4-5--

But then, in the choruses, he really starts to kick it in to high gear. This is the run he plays right after the line "Don't let your aim ever stray."

--17/19X--17\12---
--17/19X--17\12---
------------------
------------------

The whole song features some amazing little runs. Check it out, it's not a bad song. I believe Carlos Vega plays the drums.
