Hi I was wondering if there are any programs on the net for TABbing basslines from CD's - play a cd and the program works out the bassline for you - got a song I would quite like to play and can't find a TAB for it and am a bit hit and miss when it comes to working it out by ear! And if there is a good one that is free, all the better!

Cheers

There's some irony in the fact you posted this question in the Technique & Theory section. :)

I didn't look, but I seriously doubt there's such a thing online. Even doing this on your desktop is relatively difficult and far from perfect. Unless you can isolate just the bass line, pulling the notes out of a mix is difficult and compute intensive.

I've been working with a program called Transcribe (http://www.seventhstring.com/) for a few months now and it does some rudimentary chord analysis on songs as you play them in the tool. It's far from perfect but it can help to know the chord context if you're struggling with picking out a phrase when transcribing. They have a generous 1 month trial period. The UI sucks, but the program is powerful.

I can do it, I'm the human version of what you request. I've listened to and written out many songs for people. It only takes a few minutes.

Sorry if I offended you iaresee, thought this was a more appropriate place to post than 'for sale' or 'unplugged'! Was just wondering if there was (not surprised that there isn't, but just in case I was missing a trick!)

Cheers Savant, nice to find some one so helpful (cheers for the answers to the amp qu's too!) Shall I message you the song in question?

I'm not offend, I just think it's funny in an ironic sort of way. In a Theory and Technique section you're looking for the short cut, ya know?

Go ahead and send it. So long as it's not a million notes a second shred type song, it should take only a short time.
