HElP!!!!
i'm having serious problems getting my setup to give me the sound i want! any suggestions would be much appreciated.
i'm after a sound similar to that of hell is for heroes, incubus, hoobastank, glassjaw etc........
nice sounding distored sound but also a distinctive clean sound when required. (no real need for too many effects)
any sort of advice would help.
the gear i use is
1) epiphone les paul standard
2) marshall jcm 900 100w amp and cab (only one channel)
3) choice between marshall guvnor pedal or marshall jackhammer pedal (usually the jackhammer really feeds back at high volumes, not nice!)
4) jim dunlop cry baby wah
5) dod flanger
6) i have the following but dont normally use
1) dod fuzz pedal
2) boss graphic equilizer pedal

my current set up goes
guitar-guvnor-flanger-wah-tuner-fuzz(set on silent to mute when tuning)-amp(in the low gain input)

any help changing my set up for the better will be much appreciated,

thank you - shaun harrison (www.urbanaudio.co.uk)

try changing the pickups in your guitar.Maybe mesa boogie would be better?

Hey!
Check out the "rigs" page and you will see alot of toys are
often needed to go from "shredding" to "clean shredding".
Pick ups can help, check out Di Marzio.com.. I just bought a
"Super Distortion" PU for my bridge and it sent me in the right direction. I use a single coil at the neck (clean), when I use both
together I get a "BIG" clean crunch, SD by itself is really crunchy!

You have a very nice rig except for the guitar. Epiphones generally have crap pickups so I suggest you change em. I know Einzinger from incubus uses a seymour duncan Jazz in neck, JB in bridge combo on all his guitars. That should get your sound

Before you spend any more money, you already have exactly what you need. The Boss EQ. Take some time and sit down and fiddlewith it. Eqperiment. You can do anything with that thing.

First and foremost, you have an excellent amp. I myself have a Marshall JMP master volume 100 watt head. Very similar to what you are using. But plug in to the Hi input. once you have tweaked the preamp and master volume you are set. Also do you use the effects loop, if so try pluging in straight, or if you plug in straight try the effects loop. It's all about trying your gear out.....alot. No one can give or tell you how to reach your desired sound. Just sit and tweak. I use to plug into the low input for a long time (I loved the smashing pumpkins), now I prefer the hi input, i find that I get a cleaner sound that way. I also DO NOT use the effects loop, not only because the amp doesn't have one but I just like the sound better going straight into the amp. I hope you find your sound.

Put the tunere first in the chain.
Then, try the flange before the distortion, and maybe experiment with the GE7 after everything else, straight in.
