Big Muffs

I was wondering what the production dates were for the Sovtek Big Muffs were? Or just the differences between them. I've only found ones from the early nineties, but they look very similar to a pedal I heard in another guys rig that gave him some great distortion. After talking to him I learned it was a russian Sovtek Big Muff, the kind with the big tank-looking buttons. So far the only one's I've found from the 70s are American Made. So if anybody could help me out.

EH was a famous American effect pedals company in the 60's & 70's which suffered bankrupcy in the early 80's. In the late 90's Sovtek - a Russian electronics company, started to manufacture some of the old EH effect pedals(including the Big Muff).

The early 90's Russian Big Muff is the green one which looks like a tank - used by Korn & Live fro example.

The next, late 90's Russian Big Muff model, is the black one with a yellow letter print on it - used By Muse's bassist and Hundred Reasons for example.

Also, U.S.A started to manufacture Big Muff pedals which looked just like the old ones - a chrome box with a red print. But still, the Russian Big Muff pedals (especially the early 90's ones) concidered to be better than the American ones. some say its the sound, I think it's the price(and a minor fact that I'm Russian). You make the call!

My favorite(the one I use currently) is the early 90's Big Muff.

Just thoght I'd add that even before those green ones were put out sovtek put out something called the "red army overdrive" which is actually a big muff under a different name. These are really rare and as a result worth quite a bit

Thanks guys...I just won a green early 90s russian big muff on Ebay, I can't wait...so just to clarify you think these are the best ones?

yeah, I like my green one served me well for quite a long time, great pedal

Nah...it was a different one, it was in a little bit better condition...but it was an early 90s russian reissue like that one
