Drum Machine -Software

Hi and sorry if i'm posting in the wrong area.

A bass player and I are starting a new band. While we learn the new tunes we'd love to have a drum machine for keeping the beat. Are there any standard recommendations, or can someone point me in the right direction.

I'd be interested in either a software solution for my PC or a standalone unit.

Also don't want to spend more than $100 or so....

You really can't go too wrong with an alesis SR-16 if you just need the basic patterns to use as a metronome. You can pick them up for about $150 new, so you may be able to score one even cheaper on E-Bay.

Fruity loops is a good drum/various other sounds software program, but it costs $130 or something like that.
