you have an orange amp? goddamn! umm as for cleaning up your sound, turn distortion pedals off and slide your volume knob on your guitar down, mute all the strings except the one you're playing with your right hand when soling, etc...

I like the boost that the comp/sus gives my sound. but i mostly use the over drive on my amp. It's one of the new oranges that have 2 seperate signal paths, its good stuff. I think i might pull the rat and the comp/sus pedal from my rig, but i'd like to keep it. mike

same thing with my boss cs-1 & cs-2 comps ... noisey as hell but i love the way it sounds patched into my guv'nor pedal (yes... fx loop!).

you don't say how you're powering everything.I reckon the best thing for you to do is to get a DC Brick. if you're powering a lot of the pedals of off mains adaptors or have a lot of power coming out of the same multi way then you're in hum territory.
I think the drick is something that you should investigate. maybe have an overview of what pedals you really need-if you mainly use your amp's distortion then you don't need the rat, or the Jackhammer. I use a rat and a metallizer but my amp doesn't have a switchable channel.
there's loads of ways of getting around hum. It also depends on where you are. in our rehearsal studio there's no hum, but back in my house there's loads!
