The scale length is too short on them though, they may play well but they generally sound like *****. Every string on a bass, just like a guitar has it's ideal scale length. That's why you see the basses that have the angled frets, to allow each string to be at it's ideal length. The scale length on a mustang makes it shorter than ideal length for any of the strings. Sure you may be able to get a decent tone out of them, but I'm betting you could find alot better one somewhere else.

my friends dad has a 1972 (i think thats the right year) Fender Mustang Bass. That thing is soooooooooooo sweet such a great sound. he plays through a vintage Vox amp too. amazing sound

oh yeah about that 1972 Fender Mustang. i was talking to the guy today, it still has the orgional strings. he has never changed or broken any of them. hmmmmmm i knew those strings felt damn old. great bass for a guitar player easy conversion

i think i just like it because it feels more like a guitar and less like holding onto a monstrous piece of wood. then again i like grabber basses, but they're also incredibly light.
i think short scale instruments are fun to play but should not be taken seriously. i use a daisy rock heartbreaker bass because. 1 the short scale means less work 2. the body is like 1/4 of the weight of my other basses. 3 it looks cool without killing my back
but this said i wouldnt record with it ever... thats up to the old jazz bass.. there fun but not serious things

i actually have a old vintage mustang bass thats almost never been played has all the original hardware it feels like a dream i think its a 65 or 67 but i have to figure out who to ask aboutthe serial #.....................that being said its for sale if anyone is intrested.:rolleyes:
