hey guys, saw the sundays a few years ago and it was the best goddam show i've ever seen in my life. my friend had tears running down his face it was so freakin powerful, you wouldn't know it just from the albums.
i've seen cocteau twins, cure, morrissey, mojave 3, lush, the ocean blue, all great but this was the best.
damn i wish they'd come back.
also great: bob mould, the fire theft
also recommended: the vespertine live dvd, badass... the next best thing.

if you like the fire theft you might like sunny day real estate, it's the same guys except they broke up and came back as the fire theft rather recently.
the perfect circle show i saw (pre-lollapalooza) was one of the most emotional experiences of my life.
not to mention the best live guitar tone i have ever encountered....

a couple more: brendan perry, badass
trembling blue stars (acoustic with backing vocals):
i just sat there holding back the damn tears until i could compose myself.
heheh, i'm such a crybaby.
i love good cathartic emotional music.

Oh man guys... when I saw The Electric Shoes, I just couldnt help it. I was bawling like a baby. I cant believe Kevin Arnold quit, after only one show... I think I'm gonna go cry right now.

i've never cried at a show. but i'm not the type of person to really, because when i'm overwhelmed, i stand there perfectly still and not breathing. i forget to breathe...
there have been many of those shows....
but i will say, the closest had to be björk touring for vespertine at the radio city music hall... 'hidden place' just destroys me. especially with that live choir...

when dredg left the stage at the show in milwaukee with strata on june 10, it was a very emotional moment. very moving show, a musical experience.

I've never actually cried at a show, but the closest I've come is seeing Spiritualized. Some parts just draw out every emotion in you, so you are at the height of bliss but on the verge of tears at the same time.

I'm sure I'll cry on November 1 when I see Echo and The Bunnymen. I'll probably relive all of my teen angst!
I saw the Sundays once. Didn't cry but I was moved. Good show. Oh and Morrisey when he played "Last Night I Dreamt...." that was pretty damn cool.

one show that was significantly emotional was seeing TOOL on Halloween. it was right after 9-11. maynard walked out and said a few things about 9-11 and then they rocked. the show was absolutely amazing and emotionally charged. i think they do this at the end of every show, but they all got into a group hug.

i went and saw the stogges and sonic youth in august and both sets were powerfull....the vonbondies opened. sonic youth had an amazing set and played some older stuff like tennage riot and their encore was amazing, guitars having sex with guitars and noise that was so melodic it was like giving me an orgasm.

there was a band in toronto called the electric shoes, and yes, it was a tribute to the kevin arnold fronted act. i laughed my ass off when i first saw their name. apparently i was one of the few who ever got the joke. most people just thought it was a really crappy name. they got a second guitar player recently and changed their name, but they are pretty much exactly the same. not really a fan of what they are doing, but they're really nice folks.

I've seen quite a few bands that sucks so bad I couldn't beleive I wasted 3 dollars to see them. I coulda gotten a big mac. :D
Me and a good friend of mine went downtown to see The Dears and The YYY's...unfortunatly it was a 19+ show so we sat outside, consumed a micky of fireball and had our own party outside the venue...just one of those magical nights, good times. Wait that was only 2 months ago, and this is why kiddies you don't smoke pot :)

probabaly at the beginning of the show when i saw him the first time... just the overwhelming feeling of finally seeing a Beatle in concert.

When I saw RHCP live it just blew me away how much love they have for their music. They don't try to sell themselves on an image, their show was bereft of any gimmicks or effects except for the obligatory lights and huge screen, and it was just overall the most brilliant thing I've ever witnessed.

i don't know his name. i wish i did. i saw him a few years back and he blew me away.... a solo guitarist and a series of pedals on the floor which i later found out somehow controlled a few tape machines that had been rigged for certian sounds. he mostly played with a beater (as in, those things you use to mix things...however it is spelled) and an ebow (first time i saw one in person, actually)....
it was a small club in everett and he just had this HUGE sound... these amazing and ridiculously dischordant textures. the tapes largely were playing what sounded like loops of atmospheric sounds... a lot of strings and some bad sci fi esque sounds.
by the end, my eyes were mildly wet. it was just so big and it nearly knocked me off my feet.
other than that... i've never really got teary eyed at a show. i'm not the type to get teary when moved, i guess... or at least, i've never seen many shows that pushed me near enough to the point where i might.

I think i almost cried when i saw flogging molly a couple years ago. Their music is just so powerful and fun! It's punk but it's not angry or political, it's just that good ol' Irish sound, probably the bass lines. And I saw Against Me! back in november (i think that's when this thread was started. sad) and those guys also have so much energy that it blows you away, especially when everyone around you is singing at the top of their lungs with you.

when i saw radiohead on august 23rd at alpine valley wisconsin...
Sigur Ros definitely. That show changed my life.
The Dillinger Escape Plan: The second time I saw them, Krazyfest 5 in Louisville. I got a chunk of a guitar, and I was close enough to the stage that the cabinet they set on fire made my eyes water.
Further Seems Forever. They covered a Bjork song and it was ****ing awful and I cried.

I never really got too emotional at shows other than head banging and making myself tired for a few days. I always get a little emotional at Zac Maloy concerts when he plays "Early Morning Phonecall." It's about him getting a call early in the morning about his grandfather passing away...always makes me teary and think about both of mine.
And of couse when Jimmy Eat World played "Hear You Me" in Dallas a few years back, I almost broke, it was soon after a friend of mine passed away and that song was always dedicated to him.
Also cried when a band called Vendetta Red played before the Juliana Theory cause they sucked so much.

Since when are lights and a videoscreen "obligatory?"
I was close to crying at a Grand Ulena show once, mostly because the guitarist was using a 100-watt Hiwatt head and the venue (Radio Cherokee) was so small I could literally spit across it.

I pretty sure if I was at the Pink Floyd Live8 show I would have cried as just the footage made me feel pretty awesome.
The Pixies at Coachella Festival 2004. A long hot day in the desert waiting relatively close to the stage for the Pixies to come on. When sound-check occurred, the desert air started to cool. And when the Pixies took the stage a cool breeze blew across the desert for the entirety of the show, and an explosion of vibrant colors illuminated the sky. I had tears in my eyes at a number of different points during the show, but I was the most emotional when they played "No. 13 Baby," "Monkey Gone to Heaven," and "Where Is My Mind". The crowd hummed the melody of "Where Is My Mind" instead of Frank Black and Kim Deal--thousands of people humming at once to a song and a band that most of us thought we'd never hear. Amazing.
M83 got me pretty emotional, too... but, I was way too excited being so close to Ulrich Schnauss and M83.
And the following was one of the saddest moments I can think of with regard to music.
I went to New York with my family and we went to Strawberry Fields. Growing up, I listened to the Beatles and Pink Floyd mostly and when I was 12 I started to understand the genius of the Beatles and began idolizing John Lennon. We came upon the tiled mosaic of the words 'Imagine' and people were scattered about the park taking pictures and just sitting there. A man on a bench was playing 'Imagine' on his guitar and singing the song as I walked up to the mosaic. I knelt down and touched it. I could feel this avalanche of emotion just building inside. Not wanting to cry in front of everybody, I stood up and looked at the Dakota building across the way, and I was overwhelmed by how sad it was. The man's gentle and touching rendition of 'Imagine' and this sense that John was there saying its OK to cry just made me birst into tears. It had been a rough year because my idealism had been crushed by war and the election, and all I wanted was peace. And standing there in such a peaceful place an knowing that John wanted the same things made me more of a man that day. One of the saddest moments in my life.

Ours - 2001 --- AMAZING. i'd never heard of them before and stumbled into one of their shows. it definately brought a tear to my eye...
U2-1997 --- i was SOO close to bono i just felt like those girls on the ed sullivan show when the beatles take the stage... i wanted to cry like a schoolgirl...
Depeche Mode -1998 best-of tour.--- when they played Enjoy the Silence & Never let me down again back to back, i felt myself shed a joyful tear or two... (BTW, Dave Gahans' voice is WAY bassier & baratone live than on record--like an opera singer... it made my hair stand on end)
Radiohead - 1998(or 99)... Ok Computer tour. A-MA-ZING. I've never heard any band ever, before or since that sounded THAT good on stage.... A motion picture sountrack KIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLEDDDDDD me....

The Mars Volta's first US show since releasing Francis the Mute was a spiritual journey in itself. I literally felt chills down my spine and could feel my soul rise during "Roulette Dares" and, to my unexpected suprise, "the Widow". I didn't expect "The Widow" to be one of the hilites, but Cedric's voice was pitch perfect and the placing of the song in the set was perfect. It started so serene, but the band's (especially Jon Theodore's) balls out accents on the very last chorus just made the song that much better live.
I saw the Pixies at Verizon Amphitheater for their Reunion in 2004. Frank Black started strumming his acoustic which was overdriven to the point, where he couldn't hold himself back from strumming "Rumble" by Link Wray. During all of that it was relatively dark. Then when he hit a final E, he made it clean and started on "Where is My Mind?". I almost burst with emotion.
The song that probably got me the most in terms of emotion was "Hey". They started and I was sitting with this beautiful girl who I'd just met, for a large part of the show. They started that song and we got close to the point where we were almost arm in arm. That bassline started and when Joey Santiago let out that first electric bend, our eyes met and we gripped each other in passion and began making out. We laid together the rest of the show, occasionally necking until it came time to leave and we simply parted ways.
Yeah that was definitely the greatest show ever.

Tenacious D. I cried like a baby when they played "F*ck her gently". I also think Jack Black captured a feeling we've all had at one time or another when he said "we've been through so much bullshlt just to be here tonight to ROCK YOUR F*CKIN SOCKS OFF! And all we ask in return is so precious little. All we're asking you to do... is drop trou and squeeze out... a Cleveland steamer on my chest.". 'Sniff.
