I trying to decide which one is better as far as tone & road worthy
I want an amp that can take a licking and keep on ticking
I want a tone that good for classic rock as well as modern rock
I've only tried the the bogner's "shiva" & Mesa Boogie's
"Road king"

I was up front at a dishwalla gig and Rodney the lead player had a nice Bogner set up that had a really beautiful tone/sound/aura. I don't believe they(Bogners) go on sale that often, if you know what I mean.
I've never tried the bogners, but my bass player has a mesa boogie m2000, which is amazing, and I've played a bass 400+, which I absolutely loved.
A lot of people on the recent bdo tour (australia) were using bass 400+ amps.
The m2000 is rather versatile, having a fet and tube preamp, and many features. :)

Um..... those are guitar amps....
Look, if he wants to use guitar amps as bass amps, thats his business. ;)
We've been doing it to bass players for years. *looks at fender bassman, old ampegs*
