I've been wanting to play bass for a while.....since my b-day is on tuesday, I went to Guitar Center to buy something....I spent allmost the whole time in the bass section. I found a used Ampeg B-2R head for $150 and a Peavey 2x10 cab for $100. Needless to say I bought them both. Now I need to get a bass. I'm thinking about an Ibanez Soundgear 400 4 string. I don't wan't to spend much more than $400. Does anyone have any other suggestions before I go for the SR400, because I found 1 for a good price on ebay. btw I like natural finishes....

The Ibanez SR490 is a very comfortable and versatile bass which I highly recommend for a beginner. It is usually about $500.

The Yamaha BB604 is also comparable.

They combine a lot of the features that I prefer such as narrow neck and good balance.

yeah....the SR490 is the one I want...not the 400, because of the natural finish....they just wrote the model # wrong on ebay... I think thats what I'm going for....thanks for the reply.

de nada - I wish I had someone to tell me what recommendations 16 years ago. Then I wouldn't have wasted so much money on so much crappy equipment.

Does anyone have any experience with Washburn Taurus 4 strings? They're neck thru and look very awesome...It's also in my price range...
