im looking for a very bright, metallic, almost 'clangy' sounding acoustic. i dont have a huge budget. and i've not really found one i like. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

The brightest I have played are Taylors. Some of their models are expensive, but they have budget models also. To me Taylors are actually too bright, so maybe that's what you are looking for. Generally bright acoustics do not age well. The older that spruce gets the brighter it gets, so if it starts out bright it will only get brighter.

Have you thought about a resonator? That's the ultimate in bright/metalic sounds. Plus, they're just fun to play. That would be my recommendation.
