Thats right what songs do you play for the opposite sex?
Accoustic Songs only please this is the accoustice forum tight people?

That seems to work on my girlfriend everytime, oh yea!
For setting the mood:
I've tried playing some Brenden Perry stuff

Depends on the girl, man. If the chick wants a funny dude, play Tenacious D or Stephen Lynch. If she's the lonely type, play Wonderwall by Oasis. If she needs to be impressed, make up something on the spot. Those all have seemed to work halfway decent in the past for me.

I love that song. :o

It's super easy to play, and fun. The lyrics make chicks melt because they are so cute and innocent. I feel like I should be singing/playing that song to a group of pre-school kids. I like it though, makes you smile and think of being a little kid.
you know what is silly? i thought of learning that song for when i graduate school with my teaching degree.
i plan on having lots of silly singalongs.
and my answer for this topic, a song i made up. it's unfinished. no lyrics, and it's not even done.

have you guys ever considered how it is to be a girl and play guitar? It just seems weird to play a song to my boyfriend on acoustic... he plays to me but I wonder what he would like me to play for him. What do you think? Would you like your girlfriend to play to you for a change?
Hmmm... a lot of stuff from the Beatles is really good (kind of hard to play though and sing a tthe same time) but I agree with you jimbobass, In a Nutshell is a good song I love to hear from time to time. My boyfriend just played me Pearl Jam's "Black", I just wanted to jump into his arms after that, such a romantic song... definitely takes away a girl's inhibitions, especially if you can sing it in that deep voice.
Guitar-Acoustic versions
∙ John Mayer - "Your Body is a Wonderland"
∙ Bush - "Letting The Cables Sleep" (just thought I'd throw that one in)
∙ Dave Matthews - "Crash"
∙ Goo Goo Dolls- (I dunno which one...chicks seem to dig 'em)
Piano (rats, there is no piano Geek Section)
∙ Smiths- "Asleep"
∙ Fisher - "I Will Love You"
∙ Depeche Mode - "Somebody"
I agree with NoteBoom, playing something off the cuff is very impressive to people who don't play, just jamming a few chords as a warm up, especially played fingerstyle really makes people think "he knows what he's doing"!
As to songs the two that impressed my girlfriend were the Stereophonics Just Looking and, (don't laugh this is a really great song with some nice acoustic work), Spandau Ballet Through the Barracades. Try it out, it really is a great tune... Honest!

It would also depend on teh girl you're playing it to. Watch out for girls who know how to play the guitar like I do! Strumming that 4 chord progression won't get you anywhere... But Rock classics will really get us... Personally I like Rolling Stone's "Angie" and anything by the Beatles.
But since most girls don't know how to play the guitar... a simple I-V-IV will do it. Goo Goo Doll's "Iris" and "Name" are a few good ones. Just try to make it look difficult, nobody else knows what you're actually doing anyway. Girls seem to go for a lot of dashboard confessional songs these days and those are really easy.

thats an amazing song but i wouldn't play it for a girl in fear of her crying uncontrolably
I was in the position to play for a friend of the opposite sex today. She was stuck with me at GC while our friend talked to some people he used to work with there, and she looked bored, so I took the opportunity to play some open chordy stuff on a big Epiphone hollowbody. Here was the brief setlist
Alice In Chains - Nutshell
Staind - How About You (This song seriously made up for all the mistakes they made on Break The Cycle. Don't make fun of me :p)
My old band's song "Out Of Breath"
Finch - Ender
She didn't really say anything but when I briefly stopped playing to adjust my position she said to keep playing, she was listening. So I can only assume it was received well. :)
I have also had good luck in the past with Foo Fighters "Everlong"

All the chicks I know dig Badly Drawn Boy songs, he writes really romantic stuff but not cheesy stuff. And it all sounds great on an acoustic or a piano.
What about songs to impress girls that u don't need to sing on, for someone who isn't confident enough to sing to their girl?

well i cant sing and play ... yet !
but karma police would knock the panties off most girls... i mean the vocals are just brilliant if you sing them the way they are on the track.
my bro's band plays that song all the time at their shows and they got 2 brits on vocals so its spot on.
alice in chains songs are wicked for acoustic.
all the songs on unplugged are just dandy for wooing the womans.
I can usualy whip out an acoustic version of pink floyd's
comfortably numb.
a decent wooing song for me would have to be babe im gona leave you (led zepp), not for the lyrical meaning, but just becasue its such a beatifull / tech song...
while were on zepp... the rain song has done wonders in the past, but gettign the tunig done before she walks away disapointed can be tricky...
My current girlfriend heard me play put your lights out (santana / everlast dude) and she picked up my strat and started laying down the solo, i knew i was in love from then on.
:D

Haha, true love, eh? A girl who can't resist ripping out that solo ;)
Getup Kids- I'll Catch you
Dashboard Confessional - Hands down, Screaming Infidelities, ect.
Incubus - Drive
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
There's just a few I can think of off the top of my head..
Girls always dig Hotel California. At least they did when I was back in California.
If you don't feel like singing, play Corcovado by Antonio Carlos Jobim. It's easy but has some really pretty chords. Here's the tab:
Corcovado (http://www.fretplay.com/tabs/j/jobim_antonio_carlos/corcovado-crd.shtml)
And if you really want to blow her away, learn the Portuguese lyrics - they're all about how beautiful it is to look out the window and see Corcovado Mountain in Rio. Very romantic.
Another good Jobim site (http://www.etc.ch/~jason/tabs.html)
The quote in my signature is from a Rip Glitter review of some acoustic pickup on HC, I do not personally endorse this :)

ANY Goo Goo Dolls Yep. I hear "Name" is the one that launched them to new hieghts. I have the orig. Guitar World Tab of it if anyone wants it. It is really a cool alternate tuning.
I think "Utsukushi Sibuya" and "Restart" by Ozma would work pretty well. Even though they're not acoustic songs, they would have to be transliterated a bit.
Once you did that, it won't matter how broke you are...

They´re all about that and how he wants to spend the rest of his life sharing that view with his true love.
Tom Jobim and Vinícios de Morais are both genius.
Btw, good taste man!
In the bossanova area i usually play 'Vou te contar' (you guys may know it as 'Wave').
'Os oin do meu amor' Do cordel do fogo encantado is also great, and very simple.
Most chicks love radiohead´s green plastic trees - to me lyrics are not at all romantic, but it´s because of an very emotional ad that had it.
Once i´ve impressed a girl playing white stripe´s 'Fell in love with a girl' - but she was just like the girl in the song!! Luck me i never fell for her!
BTW, I get impressed with ANY girl playing guitar!
2 song i like to play for the ladies and they seem to like to hear is castles made of sand by jimi hendrix or lenny by srv. castles made of sand can be played on the acoustic but lenny may have to be played on the electric.

That's a very subtle way of telling you 'i'm impressed, i want to hear more.' ;)

Or a stunning rendition of 'True', that's a beaut too. :)
My two favourites are:
Beatles - You've Got To Hide Your Love Away
Simon & Garfunkel - Homeward Bound
It never fails! Lol.

It's been a while since I've tried to use guitar to impress a girl. I did play a song or two for my last girlfriend during the "afterglow" portion of our evening shortly after we started dating. She was probably to busy looking at my butt to notice it was a i-iv-v that i was strumming.
As for a song a girl could play to woo me, I'm thinking anything from Liz Phair's first couple of albums. "Flower" being a sure fire winner.
Now i feel dirty.

Everyone mentioned some good choices, I'd add some Wilco or Whiskeytown, some good ballads there. As an added bonus, if they haven't heard of either band and like the song, you can always try and pass it off as one of yours, that'll win you some brownie points.

5 simple words...Baby I love your way, only if you can sing and play though.
Clayton Moore
I have some pretty good renditions of "Little Wing," "Angel," and "Axes Bold as Love" that I play on my acoustic 12-string that have always seemed to impress.
"More Than Words" by Extreme always seems to make 'em swoon, too.

This saturday, my band will point out a few girls from the audience and play Keilbasa for them
My observation of what a girl wants, is this:
I find Women to be very "In the Now" Thinking. I think what catches their attention/influences them, are things that are going on (are popular) in the present.
To that end I recommend the following songs and/or artists:
Outkast
Goo Goo Dolls
a popular 'contempo' rap/hip hop/r&b artist (e.g., Nelly, Beyonce, you get the drift...)
Coldplay
Bush (Gavin)
Incubus (chicks dig the lead singer)
J. Timberlake

Chicks dig the Beatles and so do I so I would definitely play one of their tunes. Mother Nature's Son, I Will, Dear Prudence, Blackbird, Here Comes the Sun, In My Life, and if her name is Julia, oh boy. :)
All this Beatles talk has got me excited; gotta listen to some White Album now.

No, you aren't the only one... I have this thing with my vocal chords where they're essentially permanently irritated. Which means I have to be real quiet all the time (unless I'm screaming for help or something, you know...). It physically hurts to try to sing. It really sucks. I don't have a chance of ever playing and singing for my girlfriend. Although she does tell me I have one of the sexiest voices she knows (I hope she's not just saying that...) I end up just sitting there playing some kind of classical pieces or something on my archtop or on piano. I can sometimes fill out chord progressions in the bass and the melody with my right hand on piano. But playing horn and guitar for college comes first, and so my piano playing has kinda fallen by the wayside.
