is it better to use chorus built for bass or guitar, i heard that the ch-1 sounds better on bass than the actual ceb-3

You know what your half way right some effects sound better on the bass than the guitar in most opinions for your example the CH-1 in my opinion sounds amazing on the bass and not too bad on the guitar, the Electro harmonix big muf sounds like poo on guitar but just awsome on bass. It just depeneds on the sounds you can make and if you like it.

I'm thinking seriously about playing Bass. I tried one out Unplugged on Friday and I really got into it, it all kinda felt right.

in two of the three bands that i am in i play bass, but the one in which i am the main songwiter i play guitar, so i would consider myself guitar player before bass player (but only at like a 55:45 ratio).

alot of guitar effects tend to wipe out the bottom end on bass, moreso live than in the studio. chorus in particular really smears the low end on a big system, creating a big messy wash, which is the reason the boss bass chorus has an effect cutoff knob, so you can apply the chorus effect to only the frequencies above the selected crossover point.

that being said, i really like my small clone on the bass. totally ragged, crappy (in a good way) peter hook / new order / joy division sound.

and yes i do agree that russian big muffs sound way better on bass. the only problem is that they really eat up alot of real estate in the mix. i've been using my t-rex mudhoney here and there and i've been liking that a tonne for bass.

Guitar FX / Bass FX ?
You don't have to read a sticker on your pedal to know if it's good for you. Trust your ears... I like to use guitar distortions on my bass: check at my rig.
My MT-2 sounds great on my bass with the right equalization settings... It's my favourite pedal on my rig...

I'm a bassist, too! Over the years, I've actually spent much more time playing bass than guitar. I have a 60s Fender P-bass that has been through hell and back, but it's still the best bass I've ever played.

My old Musicmaster Bass has been beaten up and modified over the years. I still love it though - even though it's short scale it's my favorite. It's also a tank...

indede. most guitar effects suck the low end out; hence the bass versions. And honestly, try the Arion bass chorus. it sounds amazing! too bad it's made of plastic. oh well, it's only $20.

For flange, get a DOD FX-72. those ROCK.
i have the guitar version (fx-75B) that sounds great, but lacks low end. i'll be replacing it with a 72 pretty soon.

those are also only about 20 bucks on ebay.

I am a bassist... I play bass for two bands but I write on guitar, and get to try and teach my band mates to play my guitar parts.

As far as effects go I like guitar effect on bass (Rat, Bigmuff, RV-3, Ts-DX) and Bass pedals on Guitar, (ODB-3, the bass flanger and the eq are fun too)
