View Full Version : amp modellers for bass guitar
Can anyone give me his or her opinion and some advice about amp modellers on bass, like the line 6 bass pod or the behringer v-amp bass. Are they good, or is it beter for me to just buy all the effects I need.
Thnx,

i have no experience with any modelers, but i stand by the view that having individual effects is prefered. on the other hand, it depends on both what you want and what you currently have. if you already like your amp, then buying a pod just for the effects seems like a waste. also, if you only want to have a few effects and/or total hands-on control, i would suggest pedals.

I have a basspod xt pro and I love it. This is partly due to the fact that I tend to travel a lot (I live quite a bit away from where I practice with my band), and so I dont want to be lugging a huge amount of weight around. Therefore the pod is a great thing, I can bring it along, plug it into an amp or the pa and I'm ready to go.
Soundwise I like it. You may never get the "real" sound out of its emulations because they are, well, simulations only. But for me I think it is close enough.
My only gripe with it is that you can only have one of each effectgroup (stomp, mod, delay/rev, eq) active at one time, but hopefully they will change that at some point.
With regards to hands-on control, you have just as much control on a pod as on a pedal.
My advice to you would be to try it all out for yourself. There is no "better" or "worse" solution at least soundwise. Whatever you like, thats the right solution. Let your ears be your guide.
The Pod is a pretty good amp modeller.
A friend of mine use it as a pre-amp/modeller/effects unit.
That is he plugs his bass into his Bass Pod,
the signal then goes into a power amp.
He uses a 2x15" David Eden cabinet to go with it,
and he gets good sound out of it.
He also has a Line 6 midi pedal board, to manage his effects.
If you want to use the effects on the Pod, I would highly recommend you get a pedal board to go with the Pod.
Or else you will have a hard time managing your effects
while playing... obviously.
If you just want the Pod for the effects, I think, it would
be a waste, cause it's much more than a multi-effects unit.
It all depends on what your gonna use it for.
