channel switching

I was watching some of my metallica DVD and i noticed that when Jaymz or kirk switched to distortion their was no footswitch or stompbox around. it looks like they are using the volume knob but can someone clarify this.

They have their amp or guitar techs or other people switch it for them.

yeah, all their effects (except wah) are off-stage, controlled by someone else.

Yeah having other people switch your effects would be awesome, Maybe I can train my dog to do that for me.

Half the fun in distortion is stomping it on !!

I would'nt want a guitar tech doing stuff like that for me! I enjoy setting up everything just as much as I enjoy playing.

My opinion anyways..

And if you disagree, just play a song like Fade to Black, where you go from the clean chord progression, to the distorted power chords, how can you not like doing the switching !
