ive noticed that alot of my songs use a d chord or d power chord (drop d) as the main chord in my songs, so therefore i write alot in d. how can i get out of this rut?i need a change, something that is still heavy but different.

Dude, a LOT of Metallica is in E, and they've made a ton of cash from it, so don't worry about it.

try a different tuning there are vast possibilities d is good but so are c,b,a and flat tuning and so on.

Worship alot of satan while drunk and on coke then you will write the best song ever, if I write it.

Often go through writing lots of songs in the same key/with similar rhythms etc. It's nothing to worry about, eventually you grow to like other keys and so forth. You can keep the strongest of the songs you wrote in the same key, or cut and paste the best bits together.

dude dont worry bout it, tool have 95% of there stuff in drop D and 95% of it is awsome. its like how noel gallagher has used that c, am, g....etc prgression so many times and got away with it. if it osunds good it dont matter on the tuning.

but if your desperate for a change try open tunings, they are really cool. my band plays a song in open g (rythm player) whiile i play in standard. sounds really good and diff from every other band we have ever met.

Hey Epiphone8, have any samples of that song you were talking about? My band does the same thing, except all the time. I play in C suspended(CGCFGC), and my other guitar player plays in Drop C(CGCFAD). It makes for some cool sounds.
