Just curious on what types of distortion most of you use? I'm using an older DOD Supra Distortion, pretty fuzzy if it needs to be, I like it a lot. I used to just use the overdrive on my amp, but once I started fiddling with my effects order the distortion got real muddy, but the clean was...well clean.

I primarily use tube distortion but I have an 80's russian Big Muff Pi that I mainly used for bass.

At the moment my distortion comes from:
Laney TF - 200 65w amp, Danelectro Daddy O, Danelectro T-bone (plastic mini pedal)....
Soon: Electro Harmonix Big Muff pi NYC reissue..

Rats. 2 of them. And I add a compressor for leads to give it a completely synth like tone.

Nice and smooth.

Our bass player uses a big muff. Sounds really good, I've tried them and they don't seem to work that well for me. I'm sure if I worked on it more it probalby would, but I'm pretty happy with my $25 DOD!

I use a Tech21 XXL stompbox. And my Koch Multitone Amp which has a crunch and a verrrry heavy channel next to it's clean one...

I use a russian big muff ?, but I am considering either a boss blues driver for a raw overdriven sound or an MXR double shot for a crisp heavy distortion and ...another channel to f with!

I have many distortions... in fact i like changing my overall distorted sound in different songs. most of the time I use my rocker distortion alone, but when i want to push it harder I add my overdrive and a touch of delay.. other times I use my big muff or my blue box (but I consider them as fuzzes).

Nothing.

EQed Valvestate Amp Distortion with a SD-1 (very low gain) for harmonics and boost when needed.

I use a russian big muff, I love it. I've ordered the US version though, it should be here soon.

i hate masturbatory threads like this. noone's saying a damn thing, and you didn't really say what you wanted from your distortion. like what tone you're after....
i like the boss super od BECAUSE it's a warm rich sound which doesn't completely alter your basic tone and allows for dynamics. i use it with lots of delay. i like my amp on the gain channel but with no real distortion. a fatter thicker clean sound to build on.
anyway folks who cares what your favorite is if it's just a name? WHY is it your favorite?

ibanez BN-5
good for fuzzy no-bass sound.

ibanez CD-5
good for distorted sea lion sound.

rat
just all around good.

fabtone
does what i like the BN-5 for, but without the subtle tinge of metal (which is less the actual sound so much as me being weird)

A Rat II and a Fabtone. The Rat for a skanky sizzle and the Fabtone for all out obliteration. The Rat sounds great with my SuperComp, I need a few patch cords so I can try them with my Booster.

Fulltone Distortion Pro
The gain knob doesn't alter the gain a ton. Rather it adds harmonics and makes it sound almost fuzzier. I like it because I can get a lot of sounds out of it as my taste changes. The saturation knob is great for making it sound spongy, the presence knob adds big bass sounds, and the voicing knob adds lots of rude mids.

I also have a Boss BD-2 that I might get modded someday. The Blues Driver is good for general overdrive, and when combined with my Distortion Pro, the sustain just goes and goes.

I use a dano pastrami overdrive into my amps gain channel. I hated this pedal at first because it sounded like such buzzy sterile crap into my clean channel, but when i toned it down and put it into my gain channel I was pleasantly surprised. Very thick gainy blue album weezerlike tone.

Ibanez SM7 Smashbox.

It's the most saturation I've heard in a distortion pedal in the $100 - $150 CDN price range. I can get really good low end in the dist too.

In the summer, my friends and I practice in my garage :P. We had some next door neighbors over for dinner one day, and someone had "Send The Pain Below" by Chevelle playing, but the guy who was over thought it was us. That should just give you an idea of what kinda dist I can get out of my SM7.

currently using a boss ds-1. pity me please and sell me something good and cheap.

actually, the boss ds-1 sounds alright on my mosrite, tamed down a bit as more of a gritty overdrive without ugly ass midrange spike. tone-11 o'clock, level 9 o'clock, dist. 11 o'clock. neck pickup. really dirty.

but i think i know what i want in a distortion pedal finally. though, i'll need three of them... a big muff, a vintage rat, and a fabtone.

all three sound heavenly with my ampeg.

A self-modded SD-1, a custom made stereo fuzz box, and an Access Virus C synthesizer. I've also got a Fuzz Factory laying about, but I don't use it too much anymore.. perhaps some day, again. Right now it's too out of control for what I'm doing, and I'd rather process my **** with a synth or my powerbook..

Eeecck who pissed in your Cheereo's? It seems as though most people explained why they liked the distortion they use. Perhaps not as eloquently as you, but never the less they did. :D

And there is nothing wrong with masturbation it's one of the last inalienable truths.:)

Well I thought Zepolant started this thread by just asking what kinda distortion we use, not why or what we love about it...

ask me anything you wanna know... I'll answer if I know the answer... Don't go bashing someone elses thread if you don't like the answers. We gave our answer to this thread, wanna know more, go start your own thread and ask us what YOU wanna know...

No pun intended here, just a thought...

Sorry. Next time I start a thread about distortion I'll make sure to make sure to ask all the right questions (according to you).

Seriously lighten up. That sort of attitude will get you banned with a quickness. This is a great place with a lot of knowledable folks.
