I'm finally starting to write parts for my songs that aren't rythym guitar, i.e. lead and bass, but I'm having a problem with hearing it all together in my head. Most of my songs are a bit rythym guitar oriented (cuz thats prolly going to be me.... if i ever get a band together :( )

My question: Is there any one else who writes parts other than ones they play, and without anyone else to figure stuff out with, whats a good way to somehow hear it together, without recording it? Or am I just stuck hoping someday I'll find a lead guitar player and everything will start falling into place and someday I will finally have a band?

Stupid small town Iowa......

getting a really simple recording device might help... like a tape recorder... or even a small Tascam cassette 4-track.

or, yah, look for that lead guitar player...

good luck!

i used to have the same problem so i bought a tascam 4 track . they are really inexpensive now and worth every penny. i only played guitar(rhythm) and sang and i wasn't very good at singing to my own guitar music. that was two years ago. now i play guitar(rhythm and lead), piano, bass and sing. i attribute it to recording. do yourself a huge favor and invest a couple of hundred into a 4-track. you will see an amazing difference in a very short time.

You can be much more critical of your playing if you record. You'll improve faster, and you can here what your writing right away, so you'll know if it was good or not and what needs to be changed or scrapped.
