Playing a chambered Chet Atkins SST (steel string) acoustic electric in the shop I found it to be exactly what I was looking for: the percussive thunk of an acoustic with the sustain of an electric. Soon upon bringing it home though I've found it very problematic. namely the tone is dominated by a piercing treble that can only be tamed through harsh EQing. Gibson must have had many similar complaints 'cause they released a set of Morel Wound "Tone Tempered" Chet Atkins signature strings just for the SST. unfortunately they are discontinued and I can't find them anywhere. If anyone has sets of these strings for sale or advice on amplifying the SST please e-mail me at plentyface@hotmail. I don't want to give up on this guitar yet. well I can't afford too really but I'd give my right nut for a Les Paul right about now.
