would like to work in a strat (single coil tone) into a hard rock/metal context. i usually use a les paul into a jcm 800 with ds-1 distortion pedal or into a 5150. i know with the strat comes a whole lot of noize and hum...does anybody have any tips on how i could clean up this type of set up or any examples on pro/famous guitarists that use a strat in a hard rock/metal band?

For loud rock, I just roll my volume off when I'm not playing. No problem. Just because the noise is there in the background, (while you're playing) doesn't mean anyone but you knows it's there.

However, Some of the stuff I play is quieter, has a lot of space, etc. Then the noise is apparent to everyone. I bought Kinman pickups. They sound like a strat, but are very quiet.

Any noiseless pick ups should alleviate that issue for you.

Kinman
Seymour Duncan
Di Marzio
Fender
etc. etc. etc.
