I play mainly blues, but I do play rock sometimes. I really, really, like playing blues though because you can make stuff up as you go and it is kinda hard to play a bad note if you are using the blues scale.;)

I play a lot of stuff, but what I am most recognized for is a Wes Montgomery/Sonic Youth/Leadbelly/Nirvana-type combination, or what I like to refer to as Skunk Rock, with a bit of garage thrown in, making it Brian Eno's Garage.

Kind of a Grunge/Blues Rock thing with influences from all over the place. I like it and most of the people I've played any of my bands stuff for seem to like it so I'm happy.

Hard Rock. I like the feeling of the amp pushing the speakers, and I love the sound. And the buzz from the energy...the energy is where its at !!!

Blues is cool, but I get bored playing blues...but I am not a lead player in a traditional sense either.

I used to play "air supply", 3 minute acoustic pop stuff (I've written some really good tunes in that genre). It sounds good - hell, it can sound great. Then I realized that that stuff is no fun to play - people would always just sit and listen when I was playing.

I WANT TO MAKE PEOPLE MOVE !

Mine sort of fits in the progressive rock genre with a lot of gain, I try to make stuff that is sexy, yet uncomfortable to listen to. A bit like me. ;P

I mostly play metal and rock, but real metal and rock, not nickelback or linkin park. I play lots of melodic style metal, such as blind guardian, and lots of regular heavy metal such as pantera, iron maiden, judas priest and megadeth. I play rock like ac/dc, boston and others. I also like to play some classical and blues now and then. But when I make up stuff I just play what comes into my head, it is mostly metal though.

i combine a variety of influences... old british-invasion (kinks, the who) along with some jazzy chords, mixed in with some weird noises, electronic beats/sounds, mix with my fascination with interpol, joy division, new order, the beatles, the smiths, etc.

you have my sound. :)

but screw the genres and sub-genres, at the heart of it all... it's basically ROCK! :D

umm...
heavy rock. elements of incubus, rage and u2, as well as some of my poor attempts at funky jazz. covers a lot of ground. i use a lot of open strings in my chords, so i can't use too much distortion

I mostly play metallica. You can say anything you want about them, but the older albums fukking RULE!! Megadeth is cool to, I just don't like death metal or anything like that, to loud, to hard, to fast. Melodic **** is cool to, u know blind guardian etc.

My band specializes in paleoriffology--hard rock/metal/blues/boogie. It's a really alien sound here in Hipsterville, USA, so we tend to get a lot of grief and upturned noses from the scene snobs. (It's okay, I can play rings around those posers any day!)

It's a two guitar band, with an emphasis on teamwork--tight rhythm playing, complementary parts, harmony leads--qualities that have been sadly neglected, IMO. The other guitarist and I are really into Harris-Smith (Maiden), Gorham-Robertson (Thin Lizzy) and Perry-Whitford, some of the best. Ever since we started writing harmonized lead lines I've noticed a lot of smiles and upraised fists in the audience. It takes a lot of effort to win over the jaded anti-rock audiences here, but it seems to be working.

Best to ya bro...I have nothing but respect and admiration for any artist that does it for the right reasons. Who cares what the critics say, who made them the all knowing ones?
Your band is different and not mainstream...who wants to be mainstream anyways.
Where can I hear some of your music?

jazzy melodic tempo-wrecking hardcore.

really interesting thread btw -- lots of variety and stuff i don't really know (like Thrash-garage-disco-core -- wtf is that? LOL -- sounds good)

electric i play mainly blues and blues-based rock -- clapton, srv, albert king, buddy guy -- the fat leads those guys play are what i really strive for tho i am a better rhythm player

i play a lot of acoustic too which of course includes blues, some country (pretty picky about who i listen to in country -- mainly cash, nelson, jerry jeff walker, kristofferson), and folk (dylan, woody guthrie, john prine, steve goodman, some other standards)

:D

just edited some typos

after further consideration... i think i'd say i play: adventurous-pop.

it combines a ton of influences, weird experimental sh!t, but yet, with a melody (hence the "pop").

Alot of music. My favorite genres include folk, country, bluegrass, classic rock, hard rock, modern rock, hip-hop, gangsta rap, R&B, jazz, blues, oldies, punk, hardcore, and most of all (typical 16-year old, I know)...

Metal rules!

I really do like to play all kinds of music on guitar, but my favorite genre is metal. And I mean all of it, from nu-metal to death-metal, to classic metal.

In my band right now though, Ashen, our style is very similar to bands like In Flames and Children of Bodom. We really like the new melodi-death/Gothenberg movement, and we play melodic death-metal. (Actually, I don't know why it's called melodic death metal, condiering that none of the bands have alot of gory, morbid lyrics, or blastbeats, or crazy tempo changes.) Our songs are pretty heavy (abrasive raspy vocals), but very listenable compared to straight death-metal and heavy thrash.

I play rock, I guess. Everything from soft stuff to hard stuff, on one condition- its gotta have an edge. I am from the school of though that "heavy" is a state of playing and a choice of notes, not amount of distortion. I play "heavy" music. :)

Oh yeah- and I play nu-metal in the bedroom. Hey- its fun, I swear.

I always have trouble describing our sound. Between us we hate everything, but various influences include Jeff Buckley & Pearl Jam for me, the other guitarist is into Neil Young & the Floyd, the bass player likes U2 and the Police, and the drummer's hero is Chad Sexton from 311.

But we've got mp3s posted on our site at mybandrocks.com, if anyone's interested (or bored).
