Yeah Matons are nice. I like the electrics even more though because they are so unique.

Why is only two Australians and a New Zealander contributing to this thread
I dont think Matons get enough credit outside of Australia.

I few bands play them, i think Josh Homme from QOSTA and Jon Forman from Switchfoot have both played Maton guitars. they look awesome, I wish I could get a hold of one.

Because I am in Australia getting one is no problem. Especially if I want a Custom model, it is no problem.

i played a custom model two days ago, it was:
maton MS500
on pickup, not two, (bridge only)
and it was a normal humbucker with no cover, just a normal double coil.
black knob, not white.
no selector switch (you don't need one with only one pickup)
grover tuners
black with a black pickguuard.
itt was awesome, especially whenn played through a laney VC-30 which happend to be "CLASS A"
haha lol. look at my signature!

are you talking about the acoustics or the electrics?
cause' i definitley beleive that the electrics are the best in the world, hands down, especiaally for the priice and the custom options, and the acoustics i'm not sure about how good they rank against Takamine, Martin. ETC. cause i haven't played many good high quality acoustics.

well i work at a guitar store that sells them and i play them all the time. they are sweet. that electrics have a very nice neck but the acoustics are the best. i am a fan of the TE model and the messiah.
oh they are nice
(this ones an aussie too!)

I own a Martin Dreadnaught. If i ever felt i needed another acoustic (which i dont- the Martin is perfect) it would be a Maton.
The electrics are better than the Gibsons of the last decade, hands down.

matons are great. i have a really really old maton amp, actually. i dont' have any maton guitars, but i really like their electrics. you can't really buy them here in the states so I have to get them shipped over from Aus. Petes Music Market in Newtown is where I go to get cool toys when in Sydney.
they got lots of used gear, goofy pedals, etc.
I also like Sound Devices in Sydney, but they're f*cking snobs. I assume there are better places, but those are the easy-to-find stores. theres' a great guitar shop in parramatta if anyone could find me a weblink, i'd like to check it out...

got any pics of that amp?
is it tube?
is it single channel?
is it worth anything?

i don't have any pics at the moment. yes, it's tube amp, single channel. it's probably 50-60 years old. it looks kind of like a tweed fender.. sounds very simple and warm. quite fat sound, overdrives at relitively low settings and gets quite loud.
it's weird, though. the amp sounded better in Australia than it does in the US. I'm told it's because we use lower voltage (110).. I had to get a step converter to step it up to 220, but something's not quite the same.. Who knows...
I use australian studios (cuz they're cheap), and stumble on stuff in cash converters when I'm over there. i got this for $50 AU.
score!

Sweet deal man!
hey, it seems that john Frusciante is a fan of Maton's aswell! he used a Maton 12 string acoustic on "Breaking the Girl"
and a Maton 6 string acoustic on "Road Trippin'" that is too cool!
lucky, that electric you played isn't a custom job, it's a MS501, maton have phased out the 520/524 series and now have brought in the 501 (what u played), and the 502/503 which both have standard humbuckers and individual vol pots but the 503 has pickup surrounds.
Maton's just as lazy as hell and couldn't be rooted changing the website.

that ****ing suxxx.....!
so are they still gonna be making the MS500? they better be!
if not i can always get a custom model made to the MS500 specs if i wanted to right?
yeah they will still make the 500
you do know that the only diff between a 500 and a 520/524 is cosmetic?

i know that, but the ms500 is the one i want.
and can you elaborate a bit more on the new models too please?
and do you know how much the MS500 IS? in aussie dollars?
since moving into the new factory maton has started making the "normal" humbuckers that are on the MS2000 range. the 501/502/503 all have these pickups on them instead of the ones that are on the 500/520/524
the 501 has one bridge humbucker w/ pickup surround, one volume and a coil split
the 502 has two humbuckers w/o surrounds, individual volumes, master tone, and coil split on the bridge
the 503 is the same as the 502 but with pickup surrounds and (i think) nickel covers on the pickups
the 500 and 501 are $1299rrp
the 502 is $1300rrp
and the 503 is $1499rrp
the best actual prices i've seen are from www.guitar.com.au it's a store on the gold coast (about an hour and a half or so south of brisbane) and they have the 500 for $1104 aussie

jack johnson plays a maton acoustic ( i don't know what model, sorry ) in the video for "FLAKE"
Yeah, harper uses a cw80, which he says is "magic".
Cole Clark guitars are amazing things too.
I was at the store when a shipment of fl1 and fl2 acoustics came in, i was blown away by them, especially the pickups in them.
I walked out of one of the sound booths and thought someone had chucked a cd on, but it was just one of the acoustics being played through a AER acoustic amp. The pickup system in the guitars is awesome, and I thought the ap5 was good!
If you thought matons were great guitars for the money, cole clarks are better still. Still love my maton electrics though. ;)

i'm gonna have to try and get around to playing a CW80 then, ben harper's the man.
don't suppose anybodies noticed my new avatar? (MATON ACOUSTIC!)
