The bass player in my band has a peavey nitro bass head and a fender 1x15 cab. I've noticed that when he plays the sound doesnt have any life to it. Like it doesnt sound like a bass. Is this because he only has the 1x15 cab and if he were to get a cab with 10in. speakers would it fix this.
Thanx for the help:D

Please Help
it may be a result of the eq. a 15 should have more of a rumbly low end sound; 10 inch speakers should give the sound more definition and high end response. so anyway, the first thing i would check with him is the eq settings on the amp.
can you give some more details? what kind of music do you play? what's the wattage on the head and the cab? what exactly is his sound like? what kind of bass is he playing?

We play music like AFI and stuff like that. He has a Gibson Thunderbird and a Fender P-Bass. The head is a Peavey NitroBass and the cab is a Fender 115h. I'm not sure how many watts the head is and the cab is 300w (i think). The sound seems so low that the bass doesnt sound like a bass it sounds just like a big rumble. He also has a Hartke combo which he plays through at practice and that sounds fine and like a bass. I fiddled with the peavey's eq with no prevail it always seams to sound very rumbly with little or no change.
weird...
they seem to get good reviews, and my apartment mate uses a similar amp and it sounds good, getting a really broad range even though it's just through 2 15" speakers. generally he boosts the mids. if nothing seems to work with the current setup, and *assuming* that there's nothing wrong with the head, using either a 210 or a 410 possibly in conjunction with the 115 should give the sound a little more life. what kind of speaker is in the hartke?

Maybe the head isn't pushing enough power to bring the speakers to life. If either of his basses have active pickups maybe the battery is dead. Also like that one cat said, check the EQ and maybe take the power amp into the shop to make sure it's not effed up. A different cab with a horn would probably help. Also adding a touch of chorus to a bass really makes it come alive, if you do it right it'll come accross sounding overdriven. Maybe he needs to change his strings, if he can't afford new ones you can boil them to make them sound better. Can you tell i used to have a bass player that I had to babysit?

the Hartke has either a 10 or 12 inch speaker i'm pretty sure its 10 though. We are having practice today so we are goin to try some stuff out to get the Peavey to sound better.
Thanx for the help everyone
