so I went in a local mom & pop store and played a Yamaha FG-#### 12-String. Wow  Those things sound like a regular guitar with a Chorus pedal hooked up to it. Only $285...too bad it doesn't have a built in pickup.

They are kinda hard to play cause there are so many strings on 'em (my fingers are sore...bloody 'ell!). Who here has any 12-string nonsense to share? ;)

I have a Ibanez 12 string that I bought in 1990 at a pawn shop for $75.00. I love that guitar. I played it for like two years straight B4 giving it a rest. After alot of practice it becomes easier to play a 12 string and like you mentioned, quite enjoyable.:)

The chorus thing is soo cool. Just wait untill you try out an electric 12 string. It's even more amazing.:D

Aside: LV, can you play the riff of the song that plays when you load the Rush webpage? What song is that?

I played a Guild 12-string that I liked. Best of both worlds IMO: mellow sound with the shimmering chorus of twelve strings.

There's a really old Gretsch 12-string at a local store, it's great, and about $300. I may have to pick it up. Also, my friend has an Alvarez 12-string, that feels great as well.

I'm a big fan of electric XII strings. I have a Strat XII, which I think is quite lovely. I like to use them through pitch-shifters, delays and reverbs for huge sounds.

Back before x-mas I was playing a MIJ Strat XII through a Ampeg Reverberocket (2x12) and fell in love. That was a great combination - 12 string shimmer with Ampeg reverb. In a perfect world they would both be mine.

I'm amazed that they reissued the Strat XII. I think that's cool. The new ones have a better bridge than mine and are probably better made. The neck on my is starting to get wacky because it's been strung with such high tension for so long. I don't think they did any other reinforcement than a regular strat neck.

Do you remember the selling price on the one you played?

oh, and a Strat XII through a Reverbrocket is a beautiful thing.

It was around $700 (or a little under) I think. They probably still have it - I just can't afford it.

I PM'd the store info to you if you want it...

<gulp!> For a few bills more you could get a real Electric XII. I only paid $250 for my Strat XII and it is mint. I think $700 is too much, but wait .... it has US pickups doesn't it?

I'm not certain what p-ups it had - for stock they sounded pretty good to me. $650-700 seems to be the average price I keep seeing for most new Japanese made Fenders. Bad exchange rates don't help it much these days.

A strat XII or the old electric Xii?

As the vintage electric XII are going for over $2000 cdn now.....

My Pan electric 12 is exactly that way....I have to downtune it when I am not playing it to keep the neck from being killed. though, I now just tune it to C.

I saw one(Electric XII) in New Mexico for $1200. It was beat, but still played really well.

Yeah!!!! You should hear my Rage against the machine cover band!!! IT's so PHAT!!!

Fight starts if this thread is seen in 3, 2, 1.....

I actually hae been tuning everything to C as of late. It fills a touch more space, and fits my singing voice better then E.

Dude, so how do you to the toggle tremolo parts? Did you rewire your guitar? Did you sticker your guitar just like Tom? His stickers are sooooo funny.

(isn't it funny how we were told we weren't very original ..... ?)

Open G for me, it's the atypical lap steel and pedal steel tuning. Which sounds great for my music. And it's also inspired very much by Low. ;)

I actually have my les paul in open G.....down tuned to C makes it.....Open E. I love that tuning. It is perfect as it doesn't mess with my fingering for leads(yeah, I play more leads now) on the B-D strings, and the amount of texture out of it is incredible. when I say C it is simple downtuning, not open C(which was my alternativce, since I have been singing alot more, but it is just too much for me to play and sing in a alternative tuning at this point(at least one that I don't know very well).

And sadly, I could tell her how to wired a toggle, as i wired one into my strat. Other then that, I am a uncreative knob:).

That is The Spirit of Radio and yes I can play it. Alot of people cheat and play it wrong (as I did for several years) but I learned to play it the right way. You need a good flanger to play that riff. He's using an EH electric mistress. I use to have one but the volume drop on it was bad so I sold it.

I have a cort earth 200 12 string that I picked up for $500AU a couple of years ago.

It's a pretty nice thing, spruce top with mahogany neck, back and sides, and the build quality is pretty good.

Lately I've been tuning it to open c and play slide guitar on it, john butler style. ;)
