hey i was wondering if anyone knows what technique john frusciante is using on the verses of dont forget me off of by the way. its sounds almost like palm muted fret tapping or sumthin, its a great sound. anyone any ideas how its done?
cheers
i have no idea exactly what he is doing, sounds like he could be tapping of some sort, but i definately think there is some delay involved, he's been using a lot of effects lately, as shows in most of the new peppers record

ok in that song john using heavy reverb (he really likes his reverb so id sugest at least set to 12 o clock on ur amps reverb pot. and hes also got delay set to about 3 or four repeats (u can tell this buy the dead note at the song and how it echoes off) the verse goes something like this
e 5 h 7 p 5 h 7 p 5 h 7 p 5 h 7 5 h 7 p 5 h 7 p 5 h 7 p 5 h 7
b
g
d
a
e
hammer on pull off this little bit for the first part of the verse then with the finger tapping part (i think its just a clean guitar with delay but john plays it very well) its just:
t 8 p 5 p 0 t 8 p 5 p 0
play on the high E string really quick, it doesnt matter if u use two fingers and do this really:
t 8 p 0 t 5 p 0 t 8 p 0 t 5 p 0
its a lot quicker, easier, maybe not as good sounding but as long as u can do it smoothly and cleanly at speed it shouldnt matter too much. hope that helps
