Hi peeps

*Got a 98 Ltd Ed Epiphone Les Paul and every now and then the pickups are really quiet or dont work at all. I think its a problem with the switch. Do you know how much a guitar shop will charge for this? (£)

* Also, what is involved with shops doing a 'Professional set up' on a guitar and how expensive is that?

Cheers.

pickup selector's for strats are like 15$ CAN so for gib's they can't be much more, probably about the same i would think, if you or anyone you know has a saudering iron then buy it and replace it your self cause a guitar shop will probably charge you over $30 i guarantee!!!

basic setup's in a shop usualy run about $50 before taxes and aren't all that great, they put a new set of strings on, adjust the pickups to what they call the "optimum" position, and do a half ass check/tune up on the intonation.. unless you REEEEEEEEALLY need something fixed don't put your guitar in for a setup

ok guru, well shops vary from place to place, the only one around here isn't worth it. yours may be way cooler, IMO though guitar shops charge to much for setup's i mean they're just turning a couple screws.... a little reading and a little practice and you could do your own setups for nothing

ya hollow bodies can be a B*tch to work on, but his les paul should be no prob,

cool, no no i wasn't offended, that's cool you found a good place, the only place around here that's good is an old custom guitar builder that i know, he's REALLY good, and he just works out of his basement as a pass time after his day job. Like when he dresses frets he uses a magnifying glass/hat to make sure every fret is PERFECT!! but he's a bit expensive and i know how to do that stuff myself so.... ya... no worries dude,

lol but anyways yes, you should be able to fix that pu fading out problem with a new switch :D
