do any of you ever get stuck writing songs about the same thing over and over again?

right now i have written three songs all about the same girl.

it gets aggravating because it's like you're stuck in a rut and can't write about anything else.

has this ever happened to you?

yes.

and it happens to tons of emo bands too! LOL!


seriously though... best thing to do is to try to force yourself to write about other things. try writing about concepts as opposed to people... write about friendship or politics or religion or something.

write about inanimate objects.

write about your city.

i dunno... at least, that's what i try to do when i'm in a rut.

yeah that used to happen to me because my life isnt very exciting. but, now i record dreams, and use those as subject matter.

Just keep writing - not everything needs to be a keeper but if you keep writing it will make it easier to get new experiences into lyrical form when the time comes. Just keep writing - don't worry about what it's about yet. Sometimes some of the best songs have come from ***** ideas - what made them good was what the musician was able to shape them into.

my tip is kind of similar. don't stop writing and don't ever throw anything away. keep hundreds of notebooks with stuff in them.

i most commonly find myself coming back to ideas and songs i thought were complete and utter **** that i wrote months ago, only to find out they were some of my best.

yeah man just keep writing just takes some time but you never know what is gonna come outta it
