strap button problem

so my acoustic only came with the standard "bridge pin" style strap button on one side and not the other. i have a set of strap buttons i'd like to put on, one would require drilling, and i'm not sure of the other because i'd like to put it where the current pin is. what i need to know is how i remove the pin without it breaking off or any other such rediculous problem.
