i play guitar, but alot of bands or people forming bands are lacking the bass player...so i thought of taking the role.

What are some good basses and amps to gig with, but on a BUGET!

I was thinking along the lines of a Fender MIM p-bass or j-bass(i really dont know what the difference is) and 100watt ss amp. I've seen 100watt solid state amps go for 300 (cheap ones).

Anyway, don your knowledge upon me........

Heya,
I would say if you have a little bit of money to spend go for a Fender P-Bass, thats a really good all around bass, and try to get an ampeg amp of some kind, they are really nice, sometimes you can find em used and get a good deal on em, that should get ya a good start and they will last you for awhile.

The fender is a good bass on a budget, the ampeg though probably won't fit in what you want to spend. Don't get me wrong they're amazing amps, but they're not cheap. You'd probably be better off looking at an SWR or even a Fender Bassman (new not the old one). They're nice and alot easier on the wallet.
