I just about run everything through my Small Stone. *shrugs* I like it. Are you looking for a classic thick swoosh or a ray like buzzy zappy noise? *I think buzzy zappy is the exact defenition* If you want something more freaky, go with a new Boss or Ibanez phaser.

ummm i tried an Electro Harmonix Phaser (Small Stone?) ones, I liked it but it wasnt anything I was gonna get. It sounded real good but i thought it wouldnt fit into the music im making.
We were doing some recording the other day and needed some swirl on a mid/upper register bass line so I whipped out my Small Stone (orig) gave it to my bassist to try out.
SInce then he's been spending a fair whack of time online trying to find the best price one:)
It sounded ssssooooo good! He'll prob get a reissue I think.

There you go man. Small Stone magic.
yeah, word..
i think in general most phasers sound good with guitars or basses...
i let my best friend and bass player play around with my reissue phase 90 once, even before i did the r28 mod, and it sounded real sick....
Well, I read that the (previous) bassist of Incubus uses the MXR Phase 90. Does anyone know how the phase 90 compares to the smallstone on a bass?
I agree, that it all depends on the kind of sound you're looking for. As my band (and my bass playing) is heavily influenced by bands such as Tool and A Perfect Circle, I am looking for a phasing sound that fits that kind of music.

I havent tried the Phase 90 for bass, but I guess it's supposed to be the best phaser on the market, just try the phase90 and also the smallstone. and see which ones fit your band.

There's no such thing as the "best on the market". It's all up to what individual people think of it. I love the Small Stone. Some people hate it. I don't have a use for the Phase 90. To others, it's a god send. It's all about what you try out and like yourself.

I believe the Pigtronix EP-1 Envelope Phaser will become the premier phase pedal for bass.
You can use it as a rotary phaser (with expression pedal speed control), or as an envelope controlled phaser for deep liquid funk tones.
It is totally analog and incredibly beefy.
Just ask Stew:

I've tried my guitarists phase 90 once - it sounded awesome!
Didn't want to give it back to him but he brutally took it away from me: I'm still crying!!!! :o
(And now a word from our sponsor: )
MXR Phase 90 on a bass - worth every note!!!

I've not actually tried it with a Bass guitar yet but the Lovetone Doppelganger sounds pretty good doing bass lines on the low E String
