I'm pretty sure he played a Gibson Les Paul bass back in the BFF days. Looking through the album liner notes, I see what look like some oddly-shaped, probably custom basses. Who knows. I believe he used a Big Muff for the fuzz parts.

The outbox is also a sort of distortion, the official bass version is-I believe-called the depth charge.

I forgot to mention that he uses a boss octave divider, presumably to compensate for all that fuzz. . .
