What acoustic guitar should i get for college?
I dont want to take my eletric because it is to expensive to take and i have recentley wanted to get an acoustic to mess around with. The guitar needs to be cheap at most 350 bucks.
The guitars im looking at are:
Martin D-15 I really love this guitar its sound is beatuifull. And the look of this guitar is excelent. My only worry with this guitar is that this guitar is really fragile. And i worry that with the Martin name on the headstock that people will want to steal it.
Alvarez AD60K. Now this is really a great looking guitar. I havent actually played the K model but i have played the acoustic eletric version the CK and i really liked it. The sound was not nearley that of the D-15. But i feel that this guitar will be less likely to be stolen and that this guitar is more durable than the Martin.
Please suggest anyother guitars that you think would fit in with my situation. If you want to know i play mostley classic rock. I do play some punk music and some metall. And I'm trying to learn how to play blues and jazz.
go to stores and fool around, i got this wonderful mitchell acoustic for 200 bucks just cause it had a chip on the neck, and it feels wonderful! i wouldnt trade it for a thing, dont worry about brand names, just go to stores and play as many as you can and find the one that feels right.
Yeah, go to a store and play all the acoustics until you find one that you like the most and buy it. My dad has an Alvarez and it is pretty nice. It's one of the older ones though.

Well I love the D-15. And I can get it for the price im willing to pay. But i worry that at college someone would steal it or break it. I mean I want a guitar that i wont be to pissed if it gets stolen or broken. And it needs to be a durable guitar. Do you know what i mean. I have found guitars that i love. But i fear that they will get stolen or something.
I use my Yamaha apx-4 when I go away for weekend trips or when there are other hands around that want to show you they can play some Nirvana song. It is a great guitar and sounds good but is cheap....
Yamaha makes some great low end guitars...

the Martins are GREAT.
and i think they should be durable enough. to me they feel kinda light and fragile, but i have friends who own Martins and they are pretty tough.
yah, i understand your fears about security. what's your dorm situation? roommates? a single room? if it's a single room, you can obviously keep your guitar locked up in your room.

Well my room situation has not been finalized nor has my room mate. Thats what im wating for is my roomate the dude im thinking about rooming with is not sure if he is going to go to the same school that im going to yet. We think we will room togeather but hes not sure if he wants to go to belmont or ut.
Room wise there will be two of us and the other dude will prob. be a musican too(belmont is a school that has a lot of artist and musicans). And the room will prob. be in the freshman dorm but i have been told i might be able to get a belmont apartment.

well, hopefully at a school with a lot of artists and musicians, people will have respect for your gear.
i say go for the Martin. get what you want and be happy! then just take the necessary precautions to make sure your guitar is safe when you're not there to play with it.

Buy either an Ovation or a Cort. Both have a magnificent sound to one another. You'll be impressed.

i don't know much about Cort's... but Ovations are pretty good. although, in my experience, some have been very good and others sound kinda thin.

Ok its almost a done deal im going to get a Martin 000-15s. The guitar is the **** and im going to get it insured and hope to God that no one hurts or steals it. But hell yeah it is one damn nice guitar. It is a great guitar to play and the tone is unbeliveable. Its a bit more than i was willing to pay at first but im not going to settle for anything less. 849 bucks right now but i will prob. be able to talk Joe or Ryan down a bit. Joe actually helped me decide between a few guitars that he had in his store and with luck he will discount it even more for me since im a loyal coustomer and all. Chris that works there said that he thought i might be able to get Joe or Ryan to go down to 799.
Martin's are the best for acoustic.
Ovation's suck, sorry to those who like them, they are garbage.

I recommend looking for a Saga Blue Ridge acoustic. They go for around $350 new, have a solid spruce top and rosewood back and sides, sound gorgeous, and are an excellent value. They're much better than Martins at the same price range.

Yeah so much for no more than 350. Well i found one I loved and couldent put down. But i guess teh guitar will be fine at school. I mean Im carefull with my guitars and Belmont is a school that has alot of musical talent and alot of fine instruments.
And I had a room mate lined up a few weeks ago and he said he was going to bring his HD-28 so since I love the sound of them I eventually decided to buy one and I have a bud thats going to take his too. Although now the dude that was going to room with me is going to another school because he had a bigger scholarship.
I also talked to someone that goes there that has had there Taylor 914ce and been going to Belmont with it for 3 years with out any probs. So I think my HD-28 will be fine.
BTW its name is Honey.
