Hi everyone,

Just wanted to ask your expert advice :)

I play different musical instruments (piano, guitar, harp, AND a bit of bass guitar - classic passive p-up basses - Fender J-Bass or P-Bass) and a lot of styles, from Costello to the Kinks, from the Byrds to My Bloody Valentine (except for metal).

I'd like to get the ultimate clean amplifier to plug ALL of my gear, piano, guitar, AND bass into. But the question is: does it exist???

What about a Fender Bassman '59 Reissue? I know it sounds awesome with electric guitar and even piano and harp, but what about its performance with basses? After all, that amplifier was born as a bass amplifier!

In case you rate Fender Bassman 59 Re as a "NONO bass amplifier", even for Fender P and J models, are there alternative amplifiers that could fit both electric guitar AND bass?

Cheers a lot, mates, cheers a lot!

Martino

If you want the ultimate clean for bass then you will need a solid state amp. Older Sunn, Kustoms are pretty cool and I have even used a JC-120 which works well so long as you don't push it.

The vintage-style Bassman, in comparison to most modern amps, is not a clean amp. At the time it was first made it was very powerful but now it is just average.

I can't believe it. Do you mean a Roland JC-120 by "a JC-120"?

I can't believe that amplifier is so good for guitars AND ok for basses too!!!

I've got a soft spot in my heart for Roland JC-120, must admit, it's the amplifier Robert Smith loves...

JC-120s = good amps for most things you can plug into them.

one issue, however.. is the speakers. they're not built to handle the bass frequencies of your bass. IMO, if you can find the JC head and get yourself 2 cabs... you'd be set. i don't know if that is the kind of thing you'd want, however.

another option is the polytones... great guitar amps, but i've heard of a lot of jazz bassists using them.

Dear Unstuck :),

I don't know the Polytones, could you please tell me more?

Btw, I just took a look at your site, I'll download your files at some point (when I get a better connection).

Congrats, the "British Celebrity" logo rocks, it looks like "British Electricity" if you just take a glance. Brilliant, brilliant.
