Jazz Chord Substitutions

Hey, I'm a bass player, and love readin any chord charts I can find. I recently was talkin' to a trumpet player friend of mine and he was tellin' me a little bit about chord substitutions, and how you can get that real cool 'out' kinda sound. Anyone know any websites, books, etc. with any information on advanced chord theory? any information you have is helpful.
