Does it make much of a difference if you strum a distorted chord upstroke/downstroke or just with downstrokes?

I'm trying to clean up my playing and to my ears the upstroke/downstroke method sounds a little messy but just downstrokes makes my are tired cos you have to move it twice as fast. Does it really matter?

yes. you have more strength on downstrokes which makes it sound chunkier. Pretty much every guitarist would tell you that and i find it true

I find the down strokes to be more tireing but more powrfull when you need you sound to stand out for a part
