I used Monster cables in my studio for about a year. I bought most from Ebay, there was a guy there who was dimanteling his studio and selling it all off.
They are great cables but come with a high price tag. Even the used price was high. I tried Planet Waves by recommendation and then switched over to them. I sold all my Monster cables but one, it was a 9' lenth, that got me better than my money back. And I went out and bought 200 ( combined ) feet of PW cables, which was over twice the lenth of the Monsters.
I have to say that thier speaker cables are very nice, I use them for both my cabs and for my power soak. My board is set up with thier jumpers. I made up a cluster for the effects send return and the peamps I use which go between the guitar and the imput of the amp I have several guitar cables. I found that on some input jacks spinning/turning the PW 1/4 male plug ended up with it snagging the spring connecter in the female end. So watch for that because I busted one off and it resulted in me taking the head chassis out and opening it up to retrieve the little piece of metal PW plug end not a big deal, but damn inconvenient, the cable was replaced under warranty.

I use monster cables also. But I was talking to an Amp tech and he told me they are an over priced Piece of Sh*t. He said buy anything made in the U.S.A.
So im now in the search for the best cable. Any ideas out there??

I hear only good things about George L's cables. I used to have solderless cables back in the 80's but for the life of me I cannot remember which brand they were.
I definetly like the fact that custom sizing and repair is a sinch with GL's and for that reason I want to check them out.
Your tek was right, Monster cables are overpriced but they are not crap, they are quite good just not worth the price.

Fender California Coils...I call them the "Isle of Wight" cables...they're pretty cheap, and coiled cables look way cool!

In a blind test most people can't hear any difference between the cheapest cord and the most expensive in runs of ten feet or less unless there is a lot of electrical noise to be picked up. Even then, most can't tell the difference between the least expensive cord with an adequate shield and the most expensive.

So im now in the search for the best cable. Any ideas out there?? Monster Cables come with an unconditional warranty. That means they'll replace them no matter what you do to them. You pretty much buy the cables ONCE and you are set for life.

I must have taken the test where sight improved the sound or something.
I used to think that people who could hear a difference in cables where fookin' off of their rocker...until my ear developed more. I changed to Monster Cable and noticed a slight difference from the Live Wires I was using...then the upgrade to George L's was ahuge jump in tonality ! Much brighter and more alive !
George L's are for real, ya'll.
I wired my rack with George Ls, I have 2 GCX units, full so as you can imagine that's a lot of ends! In my pedal board-to-rack snake and my amp-to-rack snake I just use Rapco cable, I don't quite trust the George L in a situation where they are going to take a lot of abuse. (All my effects are rack mounted except my Vox Wah, which is on the pedal board along with the Ground Control)
If you're using a peavey bandit or something similar , durability will most likely be your only issue.
I can't imagine someone using a crappy amp like that being able to tell the difference.

20-foot C.B.I. cables for guitar and amp connections, and a bunch of 1 and 2-foot long ProCo patch cables for pedals. Cheap, but they work just fine.

I like the rapco cables. They arent to over priced, and they are liftiem guarenteed. I have had some of the for 10 years and havd no problems. I like the switch craft connectors that they put on them. I think how ever i am going to buy some cble and put neutrick end on the . They make a sodderless end that rocks.
Also the whirlwind cables are pretty nice.

Hey Grey,
I've bought a kit for my pedalboard and then I also bought enough extra cable to make a 12 ft and 20 ft cable to connect to amp and to pedalboard. What kind or size of cables do you use, they seem reallly thin for guitar to pedalboard, since I'm wild as hell when I play.
THanks,

I use the Geoge L's to conenct my pedalboard...
I use Monsters though to connect my guitar to board/board to amp.
There is a thicker size George L - 225 - that I would think is better suited for that application because it is much thicker than the 155.
The 155 will work - its just hella thin. As long as no one steps on your cables while you're puling the opposite direction, you should be okay.
Hope this helps you out.
The 155 will do the thing though....just not as thick.

You hit the nail on the head, as far as my opinion goes. It's not true that all cables go bad. I use Planet Waves cables, they have lifetime warranties, but I seriously don't think I'll need it, those things are sturdy.
If there are tonal differences between the cables, I doubt I'd be able to tell, and even then, you adjust with your amp EQ and your guitar tone/pickup selection and just get used to the tone of your cable type.

Has anyone tried Planet Waves cables? How about the new circuit breaker cable???

I use Planet Waves cables in the studio and live, they are awsome.
I used to spend hundreds of $$$ on Monster cables but not anymore. I sold off all my monster cables on ebay and have completly refitted with Planet Waves cables.
They have everything going, sturdy, good tone, excellent grip in the socket, priced right, and over-the-counter replacement lifetime warranty.
One problem I did find with the "spring retainer" that is used to give better electrical contact and added grip for less pull out's is...
on SOME NOT ALL 1/4 inch female jacks spinning the PL cable connecter can result in the "spring retainer" getting caught up in the internal works of the female jack and hence damaging the PL cable connecters. This is not a big problem as "spinning" the jack is something that normally does not occur but can.
See my first post in this thread on page one.
As for the new switch cable... I have not tried it and I likely will not because I rarely find myself wanting or needing a switch.
Like to know whether it is quiet of not though. As for the switch possibly failing in the future...well that could be a hassle during an important gig or audition but then again Planet Waves warranty is very good.
