I've got a Gibson Les Paul classic, and the other day I noticed that the tuner for the 5th string/D string has bent. It's the third one along on the top row (just to clarify!). It still works fine, and doesnt look bent unless u inspect it carefully, I'd say its bent from being straight to about a 160 degree angle. Do you think I need to take it to a guitar shop to be fixed? Or shall I just leave it as it is? I can't tell u how it happened, it really puzzles me. I have 3 younger brothers, that might explain it!
thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what you're talking about. Bent in which way? Is it the tuning key/peg, whatever you call it? Or is it the part that you put the string thru? Or is it the whole assembly itself turning in the hole for it in the headstock?
What ever it is, I'm sure you should replace it or try to get it fixed if it ain't too bad. I usually do most of my work on my guitars and that's the best way to get experience. Peace!

It's the tuning peg, I think, the bit you turn with you hands. The metal piece is bent slightly. Are these things strong, so if I try to bend it back it wont snap or anything?

Well, I'm not completely sure. I've run into problems with my guitar before and thought i could be of some help. Maybe if you post a pic of this tuner, people might be able to determine how bad the damage is. I would say, take the axe to your local guitar shop and have them take a peek at it. :)
