Shredder (e.g., Metallica, Alex Lifeson, SRV) or

a slow-bending, slide-up/slide-down Slowhand (e.g., Clapton, Knopfler, Gilmour, Townshend)?

or both (e.g., Jeff Beck, Page, Jimi, etc.)?

or neither (into synth stuff)?

Discuss...

more slowhand than shred, but I like some fast runs from times to times (techically, those aren't the best!).

I'm not 'both' but more like a clean cut split.

speed is not in my skill set.

i'm just lucky if i hit all the right notes.

i'm both id have to say...i lvoe nice slow licks that are really passionate and people can get into but then i liek to ttwist it around and get into a gut busting solo lick then slow it down into the passionate ending.

I guess I'm leaning more towards being a shredder, but I always try to find a nice balance, because slowhand solo's kick ass too!

i know it's off topic, but can you recommend me some good surf bands and albums (other than **** dale) ?

Oh, yeah, and i'm a slow-hand (but a very precise grip ...)

i guess i'm more "shred" than "slowhand." i dont' bend much, although when i do... it is normally paired with volume swells and done very slowly. sliding is something i don't do so much in my music, mostly because i don't like how it sounds with so much delay most of the time. when playing with less delay, i'll slide around a lot, but i really feel most at "home" in trem picking and slurs. that being said, i hate sweep picking most of the time. i can do it rather well, but i just don't think i like it.

i generally see my technique as being this: jazz influenced fretting and some jazz-style chording, blackmetal and surf influenced picking, and then random amounts of ska/reggae influenced chording mixed in.

I'm more 'slowhand' because:

1) I can't move my fingers fast enough

2) I couldn't know If I was hitting the right notes if I wasp layign fast, I need the tiem to work out what i'm playing. And I still get it wrong

3) Shredding doesn't interest me. I mean I would lvoe to be able to do it, but I prefer slower solos.

I suck at lead anyway though, and mainly play rhythm so i'm not to bothered.

I am a slowhand shredder(!). I can play like malmsteen and micheal angelo(seriously) but i prefer playing in a normal-to-fast way... Maybe like nuno Bettencourt or something....

I don't try to stick to some category of guitar-playing. I like to play everything that I can. My idea of a good guitar line isn't just a riff and a big lead, but a carefully constructed arrangement with loads of jazzy diminished chords, arpeggios and athmospherics - The Smiths/Church type.

The Smiths were pretty cool. I really like their song "Cemetary Gates", among others.

I'm both. I play "shedder" style whenever I'm jamming with friends (since we mostly play metal-type music) but whenever I'm sitting around the house, I play slowhand (becuase I'm lazy). Lately, though, I've been getting more into synth stuff.

i like to do shred techniques with bends and emotional stylings in it to get the best of both worlds. sadly i'm not great at either

the other day I was thinking about that: in this period, my goal is to avoid fast runs and play inspired slowhand type of solos.

it's so damn difficult: it's simple to play slow, but it's harder to give it a nice meaning, do you understand?

I've always thought that being a malmsteen wannabe, with some patience and dedication, is way simplier than playing a soulful blues, or a solo a-la "shine on you crazy diamond"...

i would say i'm more of a slowjack-er. :)

i just learned 6 string circular picking sweep arpeggios with each note alternating between a pinch harmonic and a vibrato followed alternating either a hammer or a slide. i do this forwards while standing on my cab, do a guitar flip while jumping the same direction as i throw the guitar and spinning three hundred and sixty degrees clockwise, catch the guitar, land on the drum riser and do the same sort of run going back down, and finally end in a backflip side kick off onto my knees and ending it with a nice chunky power chord.

i know i know, im like, god or something.

just kidding:D

i don't really know what i am........mostly i'm into like MBV, Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins type stuff, and also like Cocateau Twins type weirdness lol. but sometimes there's nothing i love more than thrashing out a fast solo or 2, i really can't help it's like a disease or something lol, but i'd be inclined to say both cos when it comes to solos i can play fast or slow, doesn't really matter to me :p

Im more of a slowhand guitarist. I can play fairly fast along to records, but when its time to write my own solos i usually play slowly.
