I play mostely heavy metal like White/Rob Zombie, Pantera, Slayer, Black Sabbath.

I recently started listening to blues to try and get more life into my playing. I really love the tone that Kenny Wayne Sheppard and Stevie Ray Vaughn get. How ever my Jacksons, Fernandes, custom Warmoth guitars and heavily distored amps don't really come close to that tone.
I know Steve and Kenny use vintage strats and either fender or marshall amps.

What gear, models, **** like that would you recommend I look into? I don't want to spend a ton of money since this setup would be used for practicing mostely and I dont care for used gear. A combo amp say 50 watts, just something to be heard over a loud drummer in a garage with no pa, would be enough. I also can do guitar tech work like refretting guitars, so I don't really need to look at custom models just to get the features I want.

Lastely effects......Vox wah, modifed tubescreamer. Pretty much it?

Thanks.

ahh...

at last , you've returned from the "dark" side to the "light side"

What gear, models, **** like that would you recommend I look into?

- an American Fender Stratocaster or Telecaster (my suggestion : get the truly Vintage ones, since u only use it at your garage).
- a Fender Twin amp or Bassman would be enough, but if that's too expensive, just get a fender Hot rod amps.

Lastely effects......Vox wah, modifed tubescreamer. Pretty much it?

- about $125 used....

boy, oh boy... don't forget the delays, just get a decent delays like boss DD3...

now... Play those SRV & Kenny licks all day and your journey to the "light" side will be complete...:D

A Strat or Tele would be ideal. Try and find a second hand Fender Deluxe Reverb amp (late-'70s models should go for cheap) along with a good overdrive pedal (Tube Screamers work the best for blues).

Kenny blows an old goat in my book. Stevie is the king of tone. The staple of SRV's set up was his 59 strat with a 61 neck in to 2 tube screamers, then 2 vox wahs. some times he would use a uni vibe, and or a fuzz face

amps. 2 vibro verbs and 1 or 2 super reverbs.

This is pretty much Stevies main stay, before and after the dumble and marshalls. To get started i would look at a fender re issue deluxe or super if you can afford it, and get a ts-9 reissue tube screamer, and a start with texas special pu in it. Dont worry about getting the mod for the ts-9. SRV often used a TS10 or what ever he had for a tube screamer.

You need to use at least 11 gauge strings

hope this helps out
