hey, i dont know exactly what im looking for, but i was wondering simply if a guitar amp like say a fender twin would sound alright with a bass. when i play through bass amps, theres never enough crunch. if anyones ever tried it or thinks it would or wouldnt work, let me know. this is a life or death situation! sort of....

Bad Idea, the speakers in a guitar amp will not handle playing bass, they will blow. Beyond that Bass requires alot more power and puts alot of added strain on an amp, bass amps are designed for it, guitar amps aren't. I've turned 2 practice amps into coffee tables by doing this. Solid State for sure is a no no with bass, I think a tube amp might be able to do it but you'll be replacing your tubes alot more.

I'd suggest trying some OD/Dist pedals for that extra crunch, guitar amps lose alot of your bottom end anyways when you play bass through them so a pedal should do alot more for your sound than a guitar amp would.

Jeff Ament in Pearl Jam had a crazy setup where he ran a signal splitter... one side ran out to a traditional bass amp setup (I believe he endorsed SWR stuff at the time) and then the other side ran through an eq and into a Fender Twin. The Fender Twin side was used to round out the highs instead of using tweeters.

If you want to run guitar amps for bass this is why I would do it... to round out sections of the eq that bass amps aren't great at. It's definitely a special setup that would take some time to perfect. I wouldn't do it to add more "crunch". A pedal would be much better for that.

That is most defineatly the way to go, and is where all my pennies are headed. Damn people aren't willing to ship out of the states though:( gonna have to give them my soul or something to convince them.

that you will blow up your guitar amp when playing bass on it is not true! unless it's a small transistor amp....
i myself use an old seventies 130w guitar tube amp with a 4x12" yamaha cab with vintage 30's, a killer sound for $400,-

you almost can't blow speakers when you use tubes.....
