Avatars?

Avatars would be nice to have here, I think. Maybe it's just 'cuz I'm really, really dumb, but having something visual to put in my brain helps me remember who I'm talking to. I often find myself thinking, "Hey, did Greyskull say that, or was it gururyan???" See, 'cuz their names are about the same number of letters, and they both start with "G"... Again, I'm really, really dumb.

Ok, ok, ok. We'll give avatars a shot. We'll go for a trial period of a week and see what kind of effect it has on site performance and bandwidth.

You may now specify an avatar in your profile if you have contributed 25 posts or more to GeekChat!. The avatar must be located on a different server (i.e. - www.yourdomain.com/image.jpg) and must be equal to or less than 5KB (5120 bytes) in size. The dimensions of the avatar can not exceed 50Wx50H pixels.

For obvious reasons, please refrain from **** and other inappropriate images.

Yeah, it's a little confusing. It's at the bottom of the "Edit Options" page. It apparently has to be an image that's alread on the web, so if you're gonna make your own, you have to upload it to somewhere else on the internet. I'll see if I can find a good page with a variety of avatars and I'll post a link here. In the meantime, you could use one of the "smiles" :D . Or something else from this sight, like this: http://guitargeek.com/chat/geekimages/icons/icon3.gif

Currently, we are only allowing custom avatars for people with 25+ posts on the site. After this test period, we may add our own set of avatars for everyone to use.
