Volume pot noise

Here goes. I have a 2 humbucker prs santana se. my problem is the volume, when I roll back the volume to to swells, I get a background noise increase, it is very slight at 10, but anything below, it gets much louder. I am planning on shielding with copper tape, but do I need to replace the pot when I do this, any help would be appreciated. thank you

Did you try spraying some electronic switch cleaner or put some rubbing alcohol in it?

Thanks, I did all of that and more, short of tearing everything out, finally, by dumb luck, I realized I had been using a monster _SPEAKER!$@#@ cable instead of an instrument cable, that was it , I used the wrong freaking cable. Anywhoo, turns out I'm just a few hours short of my practical guitar engineer degree thanks to my home study. Thanks for your help!!! though
