im about to repaint a guitar, and I was wondering if anyone could post a guide on how to paint one. Like what type of paint should I use, and what type of finish or laquer (not sure if I spelled that right). Thanks as always guys :)

use acryllic enamyl for a really shiny finish, and get it sprayed on so you don't get brush lines. I've used all kinds of stuff; enamyl, truck and van paint, hell, I've even used white out and duct tape....not highly recommended though
I read the reranch guide, but once I get down to the wood (after its striped) can I use a primer, and then paint and then laquer?
The main question is they talked about using laquer then painting? Would Primer work?

Have you asked on their board? Sometimes it takes a while to get a response, but in theory you should get more experienced opinions there than here. I dyed my guitar, not paint, but, you should be able to sand, fill, prime, paint, lacquer.

See I have never done this before, but I have a squire strat I want to repaint, and I am a really good artist, and my friend took a lot of woodshop classes in highschool, so let me get this straight, we strip, fill, prime, paint, laquer? Thats what my friend though and what seemed to be recommended.
You can always practise your procedure on a small scrap piece of similar wood first to be sure it doesn't end up a disaster. I'm no expert but isn't the solvent in laquer strong enough to soften and dissolve or wrinkle previously applied enamel paint. I would test it out first.
what type of paint should I use, I was just going to use like an outdoor/wood paint

around here the luthiers use sander's sealer, primer, paint, industrial polyurethane, some kind of polyester spray, then another coat of polyurethane, with sanding and wet sanding in between coats, amd buffing at the end to give you the high gloss.
GL! and post some pics when you're done.
Derek.
You'd be crazy not to use a test piece all the way through the project!! Try everything first on the test piece. Just when I was ready to put polyurethane on my newly dyed guitar body, I discovered the polyurethane turned my black dye blue, then made it RUN OUT/OFF THE WOOD!!! You don't want to make these discoveries on your actual piece. I ended up having to lacquer it.
Note: lacquer requires the use of a respirator, which cost about $30. Do not use lacquer w/just a little surgical/particle mask. If you can smell the lacquer, you're killing brain cells. That stuff is powerful!!!
