Check out my band at www.Doubtingtheobvious.com I always welcome comments. Constructive criticism would be helpful. These tracks are not high quality. Most were done in one take since we were getting studio time for free. I know the drums are sloppy too.......he's been replaced. We are trying to raise some money to go to a really nice studio with a producer but right now we are paying dues by playing at bars and other places for free beer and food. money is always a problem.

writing as i listen, obviously all this is just my own opinion:

leave
are those brushes for the drums? i like the constrast between the aggressive guitars and the lighter drums.

i'm not sure if i dig the whole "father, mother, family member, etc." opening lyrics. i guess it reminds me too much of creed-esque bands. i always think they're cheesy, but i dig the rest of it.

singers voice sounds a bit like the lead singer of Live. not a bad thing.

i really dig the guitar riffs through out the entire song.

love and comfort
i like the intro... those wacky sounds and stuff.

i dig it... the guitars and the bassline. kinda Incubus-esque so far.

singing is good. i like the guitar work. the lyrics are cool.

i like the guitar work. production is cool too with the guitars bouncing from the left to the right.

as the songs progresses, i'm reminded again of Live.

rope
the acoustic stuff is cool. very light.
lyrics are pretty good here, as well.
again, i get kind of a incubus/live sort of impression... especially in the vocals.

the pace is very good for an acoustic based song. not too slow, not too fast... very good.

overall impression
very good work! yah, i can tell that this stuff was in one take... the band isn't as tight as it could be... especially in a studio context.

i think the drumming wasn't that bad *shrug*

again, i get a lot of Incubus/Live impressions in the vocal stylings. the music is pretty cool too.

would i buy the album? probably not. but mostly because your style isn't really my cup of tea. but if i saw you guys at a club or a bar, i'd listen for a few songs, i'd applaud, and all that jazz.

good work!! and good luck!!

As long as J. Furr (won't release his first name - Jason) is not in your band, you are doing fine.

He came all the way from KY to CA to play bass for my band (if he passed the audition, of course) right before Thanksgiving...

I sent him a demo MONTHS before he came out, and I don't know why...

Dude brought 2 noisy home made strats and a Bassman head...no bass, no bass amp, not even a guitar cabinet for his Bassman head ! Moved across the country to play music and didn't even have the right equipment/working equipment...

...he came in, picked up my guitar, and started playing all of his favorite Zappa/Vai licks to show how he could add "dynamics".
We asked for bass, he gave us two hand tapping (and that was a horrible experience).

Needless to say, that 30 seconds of crap was the last time he was allowed to play with us.

I am not talking ****.

I am trying to help all of you musicians in the KY/TN area from wasting your time with someone who brings nothing to the table except a love for shredding, a big mouth, and no talent/ability.

A turd and a sinker...

Damn. Never heard of him. Sounds like it's for the best though.

the noise in the beginning of love and comfort was really cool. the rest of it is pretty good as well, but when it gets on with the flange and the lyrics it kinda looses me. simply because i've never really agreed with flange or vocals like that. you guys are pretty good.

i can't really offer constructive criticism because i think it's all pretty decent, maybe when you record that song again, try to make the part where the distortion drops in a bit thicker after where he sings 'love... and comfort' and into the 'right away....' part... is that the chorus? so then right when that chorus steps in, 'right away...' have another track of maybe a bit crunchier. not nu-metal distortion though. just.. maybe a more natural overdrive under the distortion as whole other track. it would add another dimension to the distorted chorus to somewhat separate it from the rest of the song. it would give a bit more emotion and accent to the song that way. because i feel that in this recording, the transgression from the flange parts to the distortion is so smooth it seems like the song takes the same character all the way through.

thats only one thing i can think of that would be simple and effective to my ears for the over all mix. and then again you may not agree. just an idea!

good luck
