View Full Version : Survey SAYS...
Let me start this by saying I'm trying to be constructive in my criticism of this survey. I'm not trying to be a smart-ass. Although obviously it's too late to recall this particular survey, with the contest attached to it.
But let's start with the contest. I don't wanna look a gift horse in the mouth (Hey, where the HELL does that expression come from? ), but a Digitech Digidelay????? I don't know, maybe I get a warped perception of the people here by only reading the threads with subject matter that appeals to me, but I don't think many of the people here would go out and buy a Digitech Digidelay. If it was FREE... well I don't know. But the point is, the Digitech Digidelay isn't going to be as great an incentive to fill out this survey as some other stuff might. Now the problem is, WE'RE GEEKS! A LOT of the stuff we REALLY want is either no longer made, or is not made by someone big enough to consider sponsoring you. We like vintage. We like "boutique" pedals. We like ANALOG. Again, maybe I'm misreading my peers here due to my own personal biases and the threads that leads me to read. That's one reason I'm doing this publicly. If I'm wrong, I want to be corrected. Some things I think might have been better prizes: I don't know, maybe something around the same price range from the Electro Harmonix line (or is THAT even too "boutique-y"?) Perhaps an E-Bow??? I think a high quality TUNER might have been a nice incentive! And there's always gift certificates! Maybe next time...
I was gonna say more about some of the specific questions, but I think I'll just leave it there for now. See what others have to say on this matter. Maybe I'll write more later, when I'm more awake and alert. Or maybe not, I don't know...

im SO gonna win that thing.. the draw is actually on my birthday.....
Im SO sorry. I got an e-mail message this morning from GuitarGeek asking me to take a survey. I was assuming everyone else got it too. If you haven't yet, I'm sure you will. but they're giving away "An ultra-cool Digitech XDD Digidelay pedal" as a prize to one "lucky" survey-filler-outer.
OOPS!!!

Dude, I'm not sure what the gripe is. But hell, a chance to get a FREE pedal (whether it's crap or not) just to take a couple of minutes to fill out a survey is cool in my book. They could have offered something really silly like a cable or nothing at all.
Be grateful they even offered a prize for *your* opinion, they could have easily made the sruvey mandatory to post here and not offered anything in exchange.

thanks for the feedback. please keep in mind that this will not be the only giveaway we are ever going to offer...

I agree with everything you're saying. But like I said, I'm trying to be constructive. I think there's other stuff out there that's comparably priced that might have been a better incentive to take the survey. I'm trying to help them out so that when they do this again in the future, they'll have a better idea of what us geeks are truly interested in. Then, naturally, they'll get more surveys filled out.

I would have participated in the survey whether a prize was offered or not.

^^That just about sums it up for me.^^
Also, in the survey where it asks 'how many pedals do you plan to buy in the next year', why does it only go to 20?

yeah... sorry about that...
we should have bumped it to at least 75 pedals for a few of you ;)

i'm signed up the guitar geek list and i have yet to receive a survey!
You know, I was wondering about something after I heard Guru say that he didn't know anything about a survey, but I didn't mention it because by the time I got back to my 'puter he said he HAD gotten it. But ANYWAY, I was wondering if it might have been filtered out as "bulk e-mail" by certain spam-catchers???? I'm not sure how all that works, so ... just a theory.

I agree with Greyskull... I would've taken the survey regardless. Maybe it's because I know how valuable those numbers are to businesses (brands?) that are trying to get new advertisers/distributors/whatever. Digitech pedals aren't anything to scoff at, though. It's not like they're giving away some DOD piece of ass droppings.
Free stuff is always cool to get. Whether you keep it or not is up to you, but always take the free stuff. :D
-k.

thanks.

exactly.
3v3+Z, i know you're trying to offer some constructive criticism, but c'mon... aren't you being a little ungrateful?
it's a FREE pedal just for filling out a little survey (which i have yet to receive. ). i mean, you can always sell it on eBay if you win it.
i mean, who knows... maybe guitargeek.com got a set of these pedals for free or something like that.
i mean, i doubt that Boss would be tossing free DD-6's towards guitargeek.com just to give away. y'know?
gotta start small with these free giveaways. :)
i was actually about to post but the post above is what has made the most sense about this disinterest towards something free which you could possibly RESELL as brand new.
musiciansfriend advertises alot on here. maybe there is something with digitech trying to push their new line and musiciansfriend as well.
if you're not going to take the survey. thanks for my better chance of winning..
but if anything, if you DO take the survey, and if you win.. [like stated above] you could always sell it. in brand new condition..
so whats the problem?

NO! Jesus christ! It's SIMPLE! Giving away a PRIZE is an incentive to get people to fill out the survey! OBVIOUSLY if it's a more desirable prize, IT'S GOING TO BE MORE OF AN INCENTIVE!!! ("More desirable" does not have to mean more expensive, by the way.)

Not sure why you think that would be at odds with anything I've said. I know it's FREE! I know I can SELL it easily! Again, if it's a more desirable prize, IT'S GOING TO BE MORE OF AN INCENTIVE!!!

I can't find the information on where this pedal came from at a glance, but I'm assuming it's from a current sponsor (Musicians Friend?). I'm assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that it wasn't Digitech that gave it to them. But anyway, the Boss DD-6 is a bit more expensive than a Digidelay. And as you said...

Right! I agree with all the points you've made actually, and I don't understand what lead you to believe otherwise.

I don't wanna look a gift horse in the mouth (Hey, where the HELL does that expression come from? ),
I'm bored so i'll answer this. Back in the day when you wanted to see if a horse was healthy you looked in its mouth and checked out the condition of its teeth and gums. Now when someone gave you a horse (gift horse) it wasnt considered very polite to check in its mouth, atleast when they were still around. Therefore the expression don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
In response to the prize thing, prizes are good. If you can't use it, can't sell it, you could hit it with a baseball bat. Or give it to the other guitarist in your band.

I see what you're saying, but delay is one of those effects that, in certain cases, can be better than analog effects. You can't get as clear a reproduction with analog as you can with digital, and your delay times can be longer.
Reverb is another such effect -- it's impossible to get a hall reverb out of an analog pedal.
I bet that more Guitar Geeks here own a digital delay pedal than an analog pedal. Check for a survey in Stomp Pedal section.

yah... i know a better quality pedal in a similar price range is going to be MORE of an incentive...
but i think my point is that we really can't argue with the choice of the guitargeek.com people, we should be glad we're getting anything from these guys.
and that's the basis of my entire argument, don't argue about the fact that we're getting a not-so-good pedal. the guitargeek folk are NOT obligated to give us anything at all... so we should be thanking them for their kindness and not argue about a cr@ppy pedal.
and again, who knows the circumstances of how guitar geek got this pedal? maybe it is just a promotional tool for the pedal company.
that's all i'm saying. we just gotta be a little more thankful. :)

I'm not ungreatful. I'm simply trying to let "the guitargeek folk" know -- for FUTURE reference -- what's going to be a better incentive for us to take their surveys and enter their contests.

We're dealing directly with Digitech on this giveaway. We're grateful to them for providing us with the pedal and hope some of you will find it a useful addition to your rigs. If you don't want it, don't participate in the drawing. It's that simple.
As GuitarGeek said, this isn't the only drawing we're going to do...
Nor did I. I don't understand why it came off that way, but I'm sorry that it did.
for starters, i think it is good GG is giving away stuff, no matter how crap you may think it is. who knows, maybe someone wanted a digitech digidelay???
secondly, how are we getting judged, luck of the draw, best survey result???
and finally, what is going to happen about winners from overseas. i'm from australia and am very keen to know how this will work out.
cheers;)

3v3+Z, don't worry about it. We know you guys prefer boutique pedals, and that's great. We're going to try and line some up for future giveaways.
Our readership varies widely, and it's likely that a good number of you would appreciate a digital delay. Hence this giveaway.
Thanks for your feedback. This site wouldn't be what it is without it!

The winner of the survey will be picked by a random number generator. We will make sure the survey entry is complete. If it's not complete, we will run the generator again to select another entry. Once the winning submission is determined, we will contact the winner via email. That person will have 48 hours to respond to the message. If we receive no response, we will start the process again until we find/locate/confirm a winner.
A few notes:
1) The entry will not be judged based on the responses given.
2) If an email message bounces back for any reason (account over quota, etc.), that entry will be eliminated.
3) We encourage participation in this survey by anyone anywhere in the world. You all have an equal chance of winning the prize!
Best of luck!

Ahh, another good question from the guru. Since we haven't determined whether we're going to offer back-to-back giveaways, it's unknown whether there will be a moratorium for winners at this point. Likely, winners will be ineligible for the giveaway following the one they win and reinstated for subsequent promotions.
Watch me win this one, then be ineligible to win a Foxrox Paradox TZF Flanger!

greyskull, nobody and the guru get 35 entries between themselves, that wont work. plus any random could come on here and make 20000 useless posts and win.

Hell... I'll take a Digidelay.
I heard they were quite good- and I am a delay chump. I wouldn't know the difference.
As long as I can crank the intro to Welcome to the Jungle, I don't care what type of delay it is. :)
