I was wondering if there are any websites out there that tell you the ins and outs of soldering. I'd quite like to learn how to do it.
Cheers

Has anybody tried that cold heat soldering gun from the infomercial? I was curious if that worked very well.

That's a good tutorial. I wish I'd had that when I was learning to solder the hard way.

I just realized I did my guitar the wrong way. I'm thinking of re-wiring it.

yea. i would like to know if any of you have used the cold heat gun as well.
Those cold solder irons do not work. They're cheap crap for TV sales. If you want to go cheap get a $5 pencil iron. If you want to do it right get a Weller or a Hako bench pencil iron with temperature control, regulation and isolation. The best thing you can do is practice on junk electronics.

The cold solder irons aren't worth your time. I have one lying around the shop collecting dust. They don't get hot enough to do any soldering on the back of pots, and they take forever to heat up a terminal enough for the solder to flow properly. On top of that, the tips break very easily.

So long as you get one with a small tip.
I spent the better part of a high school electronics course blowing up LED's with a 12v transformer. Also DIY'ing a univox superfuzz which never worked.
