let me explain...

i have the most recent Oasis album (Heathen Chemistry) and for most people, the best years of Oasis are long gone (if you liked them at all)... but i have to say that 'Heathen Chemistry' has really surprised me. good guitar work, good songs, solid production work, etc. i mean it's the same Oasis rip-off-the-beatles riffs, but nevertheless... solid tunes.

so what album has surprised you? maybe it's from some band you thought would suck, or some band you thought was washed up.

I don't think it has really amazing guitar work or anything. But I have been listening to Pete Yorn alot the last few weeks and have really caught onto his songs. It's kind of Art/Weird-Rockish a little not to the extent of Radiohead or anything but I think the guitar parts that are on the album sound good and fit the songs awesome.

probably metallica's "load". it's basically the whipping boy of metallica's catalogue, but i must admit i like it a lot

Dude, the best album that Iv'e heard noone talk about is R.E.M.'s latest album Reveal. I bought it because I kind of liked the radio song, but my days of buying R.E.M. stuff stopped at Monster, but jesus man. I put that CD in and didn't stop listening to it for months. Peter Buck is amazing, and with that album he is now in my top three favorite guitar players.

This didn't really surprise me because it was the first pavement album I listened to. Brighten the Corners is considered the "corporate sell-out radio friendly" crappy album of theirs. I personally love it...even though it's not my favorite, i still love it.

dredg's El Cielo.. i didnt really know what i was going to be hearing when i bought it because i was going blindly from the suggestion off a list at cdnow... WOW this band is awesome.. i have since gotten their debut cd and it kicks ass as well, it was amazing at their two different stlyes when you comapre the two cds.. they sound almost like different bands, but both are AMAZING.. if you're looking for something new, buy, steal or burn the cd (like pink floyd etc, the entire album will be better than any single)

radar bros.

i was a fan of some of the bands of the seethrubroadcasting label [and the label itself! started by d. sardy of Barkmarket] and when i ordered an enon cd, i had cash, and also bought the Radar Bros. cd titled 'the singing hatchet' based only on the comment about them on the website.

i cant even begin to explain them. go to http://www.epitonic.com/artists/theradarbros.html and download a track or two. there is some absoultely beautiful and amazing songwriting in that group.. extremely slow, quiet, bright, melodic almost pop music. violins pianos guitarsbassdrums and amazing vocal harmonies.
