Get tooth picks and wood glue

dip the tooth picks in wood glue and jam them up in there.
Allow the glue time to dry.
Break off the ends of the tooth picks
Screw your strap button back in

works for me everytime ;)

could i just glue the strap button in the hole or should i just get a bigger screw

just glue by its self won't hold real well... and a bigger screw could jsut come out again... leaving you with a bigger hole then what you started with

should i just bring it into the repair shop?

You'd just be paying for them to do what you could do yourself, don't worry about messing up the guitar or anything, its really quick and easy.

I had that on one of my schecters... but the duct tape ripped... and by then my gutiar was all sweaty and the tape wouldn't stick anymore, so I had to use a prs.

Toothpicks do work, but be careful.....sometimes they slip. I've had many a repair to redo because of this. Be sure to use lots of toothpicks and good glue if you go this route. A piece of wood dowel like you get at a hobby shop or hardware store, or even a sliver of old drumstick will work better.......
Good Luck,

i had a similar problem when i replaced the buttons on my ibanez to strap-lock ones. the hole was too big, and i was impatient so i used some super strong a/b eppoxy in the hole and let the screw sit under pressure inside overnight. now the buttons turn (thanks to the little felt washer) but its not going anywhere.

i just use gaffa tape, but i've been told by a teacher at school who has been playin' guitar for 30+ years that he always uses toothpicks and glue to fix the problem. so when the gaffa tape fails i'm gonna give it a slash

gaffers' tape, while not leaving residue on your guitar [god bless the stuff] still may not be a viable option for people that dont want a huge hunk of black or whatever tape sticking to their guitar. or who actually want to take the strap off..

i used gaffer tape forever. but then again that was on an ibanez. it was metal looking. rawr.

you should use the toothpicks. it works..

I used to have half a roll of that stuff wrapped around the horn of my strat. That was years ago and there's still a sticky residue on there. Try the toothpick thing.

yeah i use gaffa tape on my ibanez. and if you wanna get gaffa tape off get some of that stuff that remove stickiness. chemists should sell it near the strapping tape n stuff

the tooth pick thing is easier and makes more sense than the tape, so why do it?

It also works better, I tried the tape thing for awhile.. and my strap ripped in half...

In middle of a set. It sucked so bad.

i put strap locks on my guitar and it happened to me.

i filled the screw-hole to the top with superglue and left it to set. when it did, the glue only filled half the hole, so i topped it up and left it to set again. then i screwed the screw back into the hole, periodically taking it back out to remove flakes of glue which were blocking the hole.

it now holds very well, it shows no signs of loosening after "extensive testing" (punk jumps, etc)

I fixed my strap lock the other day

I just bought a wood dowl and sanded it down to size. I was going to glue it in but it stayed fine without glue. I then just screwed the strap lock bck in the guitar. You can't even tell by looking at it that anything happened to in the first place. It works like a charm.
